I painted my Altron chest piece with goblin green metallic with the sponge and the Effect was better than as i used the dry brush.

I actually used this technique on a figure recently and came first in a local competition!

One method I've found that gives great results with this is doing my base coats in a variety of colors. Adding in some ice yellows in place of white or purples in deep shadows result in some very vibrant pieces.

The Ash Grey and Matt White underpainting sponge layers looks smooth fine over the miniatures.
I would like to see the Space Marine painted with crimson red speedpaint for the Flesh Tearer chapter.

Thanks for the video! I'd love to see some deep orange on that space marine

i saw these make up sponges in a local store thinking twice if i should try it but now after watching your videos will defineitely try it :D

Very interesting, i'll try it to see if i prefer the result instead of normal simple drybrushing. Great video !

I've sponge painted before and had kinda chalky results... and I just realized I had never wet the sponge before. Will try again with a wet sponge!

Thanks for the video!
Please make a series on every primarch!!!

@kobudo 1 year ago

For larger models like those primarchs appear to be, I prefer to preshade with the airbrush or a drybrush for the darker tones before switching to a sponge for lighter highlights, particularly the lightest highlight of the “dark” areas of the mini and the final white or off-white layer for the brightest highlights.

Also, don’t be afraid to turn the sponge around and use the thick end of the egg, or even the side, when sponge highlighting larger areas.

I found that dragging the sponge results in it getting damaged if the mini is too detailed or spiky. You have to put the smallest amount of pressure to not destroy the sponge. I tried on my deathrattle skeletons. The finish was nice and smooth but I kept loosing small sponge particles all over the first few minis. New sponge and less pressure salved the issue. For the smallest cracks I used a fine makeup brush tho. I like to combine these two 👍

I have used the sponge thing a couple of times since I watched your video on it. I like it a lot, faster than dry brushing for me and the shadows left behind add a lot of character. I use a dark brown for my primer and the textures and shadows look great. Havent tried it with non speed paints yet though. Just got some AK Quick paints and have been experimenting with those.

For your upcoming space marine, orange or yellow would be cool.

Space Wolves, of course! Another excellent video. I bought sponges and I'm curious to try your method out! Thanks a lot for your videos!

Your second gray pass, seemed, to me, like you just covered the same amount as the first darker gray pass. Made it seem mostly redundant if you were going to get the same amount of coverage for both dark and light gray passes
