I feel like people saying someone plays the game wrong, don't understand the game. The first run is SUPPOSED to be a learning experience, the game literally tells you what you can improve and gives you the choice to go again after aquiring the knowledge that you can beat it completely pacifist.

The drive to be a back seat gamer is intense. You want the person to experience everything in a game but also that can ironically take away part of the experience.

I think one of the reasons why people backseat too much is because people view the neutral route as a "fail" instead of one of the endings

A blind playthrough is one of the most impactful thing that someone could feel from a game

UT/DR fans will treat fictional characters as if they were real people and then talk about real people as if they were fictional and then get mad at you for knowing the difference

undertale is fundamentally about how the game reacts to your actions. to play it wrong is to put it down without playing it

man I will always be sad that we will never see a full markiplier undertale playthrough

The stories I hear from people who were most impacted by the game are the people left to experience it without people telling them what to do.

Undertale fans are the only reason I avoided playing Undertale for many years after its release. I still remember to this day one of such fans got angry at me because I didn't know who Alphys was and then proceeded to spoil most things about her, seemingly oblivious to the irony of doing so.

Anyone who tells children that they're bad people for killing enemies in a video game has serious problems.

i think its the feeling of not wanting the other player from missing things that made the game special for you or else that shared connection is not as strong. whether is pacifist ending, favorite piece of dialogue, etc.

Real!
I accidentally pushed my friend away from the game a decade ago by trying to tell her about the best way to play it and forcing that on her
I've decided to let each person just have their own experience with the game since then but it's hard to communicate that sentiment to other excited viewers whenever someone online tries out the game

The fandom has mellowed out thankfully but obviously there's still going to be those loud ones spoiling it for everyone else, but it's definitely not 2016 anymore.

I completely ignore people with impulse issues and control issues. I don't have the energy, dudes. As a Pokémon Master I NEVER tell anyone how to play the Pokémon games. I say that I'm willing to give tips and help with puzzles. That's how you encourage new players.

"Why are undertale fans like that?" Tell a Soulsborne you used Summons in Elden Ring and you will get a similar effect. I'm pretty sure the only difference between UTDR and any other gaming fandom is there are more people yelling.

Really, the backseating comes from a good intention -- they know streamers' time with a game is limited, they wanna make sure the streamer doesn't get locked into having to do a whole second playthrough from scratch just to get the true ending. It's less a matter of wanting to spoil secrets, and more of wanting to eliminate tedium. Unfortunately it's near impossible to have one without the other, because the true ending is a secret in and of itself, in a way.

I'd also whacked Flowey on my first go around the underground. I never would've found the true ending without the wiki back in 2016....

NOOOOO YOU HAVE TO SPAR EVERYONEE!!!!11!1!2!

Deltarune has the Deltsrune in it. Deltarune Mario 3 gaster vs Daniel goathorn

i remember when i first did the pacifist route for the first time i went ALL the way back to the ruins ON MY OWN i didnt know this was a thing nor was i even sure i just KNEW i had to give this world one last tour b4 leaving it for good, finding asriel there and then seeing that cutscene was legit the only time ive ever shed a tear through the whole game.
really glad i wasnt spoiled anything (besides sans being a final boss of sorts) it was one hell of an experience, i feel bad for those who had stuff like this spoiled for them because of this fandom

I’m watching this and thinking of how the pope played it lol

Basically an unholy mixture of Undertale being awkwardly designed and having one of the most overbearing and toxic fanbase’s in gaming
