With the scores deadlocked in the 80th minute for the second week in a row, a last-gasp intercept try by Zoe Harrison gave the Red Roses the spoils. We look into what the Black Ferns targeted, the tweaks the Roses have made, and how they eventually won the game.

The direct-from-screen analysis was excellent. This was a great style decision š

This is a really well put together analysis of an exceptional game of rugby. A quality ad for both Women's Rugby and for Squidge Rugby

Defense-wise I think the late removal of Kabeya might've had a sizeable impact, then with Marley going off as well, that's two of England's best tacklers//breakdown operators off the field.

Amazing spot on that (Iām sureā¦) accidental trip! Enjoy this analysis style - the use of video really helps see shapes and lines in a way the more produced videos couldnāt.

Great analysis, presented well. The only question mark I have regarding the BF's first try is why Kildunne and Breach both chased the kick, forgetting their defensive roles. Surely some agreement/understanding between them would dictate that one remains in position as defence (RR are still in their half and don't have possession) whilst the other chases. I also didn't share the enthusiasm for Mo Hunt's well worn 'tap and go' without support (the excellent Meg Jones, valiantly tried to close the gap) which resulted, predictably, in the BFs regaining possession. Overall, an excellent game.

Cracking game, and cannot recommend the in stadium experience more, especially with the 6 Nations tickets on sale in Sunderland, Northampton, and Twickenham for next year!
I do think Canada WXV 2024 deserve a mention for a side who really pushed England and couldāve won, but these last two games back to back have been the most tense experiences as an England fan and I love it!!!
On the inside ball from the lineout/scrum NZ consistently attacked that throughout the game, but watching live I was a bit confused that Breach was being chosen for such a popular channel for attack to go down when that's the weakest element of her game... I thought it's actually useful to put her as the hare in the defensive system in phase play, where the priority is quick pressure, and not necessarily making the tackle.
Re the du Plessis chip and chase score we were screaming blue murder in the stadium that she'd been tripped, I was livid the Twickenham video operator didn't put that trip up on screen; genuinely think England have the worst system in the world, whereas the french are great at highlighting foul play by the opposition, and not sharing the skullduggery of the home team, something the English team almost gleefully does.
Really liked how you highlighted NZs work on shutting down Kildunne, it's quite notable that her big play and try came from an unorthodox rip off Breach, that creativity shows a new part of her game, and is one of the X-factor reasons I think she's a must starter in the team, even when she had - to her standards - a poor game, with the bad crossfield, the kick out on the full, and a couple 2 on 1s she didn't give at the right time. On the MacDonald intercept you can see she's actually really close to taking that offload and likely scoring another try from broken play.
Surprised you like the Mo Hunt quick tap at the end... she completely isolated herself at the end of the game, when the English team had spent the whole game exhausting itself tackling, and the game management call at that stage of the game (imo) is to kick to touch with big boots Harrison, and then press our forward dominance again.
Love the highlights on Botterman/Muir, they were the big difference coming on in the second half between a win and a loss, though I am utterly bemused why Mitchell didn't bring on 4 substitutes. Lutui was a late call up following Kabeya's injury, but Campbell, Heard, and Sing all didn't see action, and this is after last week with Aitchison not coming on, and Campbell only getting 5 minutes. If Mitchell doesn't think players are worth bringing on, why even have them on the bench?
Apparently NZR claimed the ad rights on this video, but the format was lovely, and if you can get the deals with unions/6N etc to do this again it would be amazing!
Really appreciate your work, so cheers!

Surprised what is not mentioned here.Roses third game, Black ferns seventh.
This surely had some impact on both teams performance.

Must have been quite the delayed "trip" more like she lost stud grip and tripped over herself. Had it been an actual trip, then it would have been a TMO interjection & yellow card.
The RR were playing a fast, flat rush defence to try and limit the BF break options, Amy Dupes putting a kick behind that line was a good call, chasing her own kick from near the half way line was brilliant.
The BFs made a lot of uncharacteristic, unforced errors which cost them between 2 - 3 tries and Braxton's bad defence day cost them 2-3 tries. The RR were far more clinical in capitalising on their fewer chances as the stats show.
How many times was the ref calling out Marley Packer (the only player to be called by first name only) to stop doing dodgy things, I'm not suggesting illegal things, but as close as humanly possible, a proper annoying front row competitor! Marley and Botterman are the grumpy, niggley enforcers and in the coverage after the game, everyone but those two were hugging and joyous intermingling within both teams.
The yellow card was called correctly within the rules, but Marley drops her head into the contact, which if you're tough enough, or stupid enough means a very high percentage of getting a card out of a tackle as the offensive team, that should be a mitigating factor so there is an equal duty of care. Interestingly as she was being tended to on the ground and later being helped up to leave the ground, the Black Fern was the only player (none of the RR) to check on her.
You didn't mention the lineouts, scrums & mauls, typically the RR bread and butter set piece weapons, but on this occasion the BF had the upper hand.
Kaipo Olsen-Baker usually has dominant carries and post contact metres, but the RR more often than not double teamed her, playing Maddie Feaunati who spent 13 years learning and playing rugby in NZ, with and against most of the BF was definitely a good selection... and got player of the match.
It would be a proper rivalry if the two teams played more often.
