I’ve been reading every document I pick up and dr ash might be one of the most important people at the FBC, he was instrumental in learning how to contain all the artifacts and how the oldest house works. The board doesnt like when people meddle with their house though so tried to kill him.

9:48 - Did you notice that Northmoor begins to speak and write like The Board? Look at the formatting: " ... All personnel currently serving in the Foundation must < expel fluids / urinate / do their business > exclusively into" etc. etc. etc.

[Edit] 26:24 - And there it is again. "As Director of the Federal Bureau of Control and < chosen representative / liaison / benefactor > of the greater authority of the Board ..."

Worthy individuals, like the previous directors who died/absorbed inside/by the house will become part of the board. It’s a collective minds/souls of them.

Since the Norse mythology is very strong here and I've heard enough theories that the Oldest House is Yggdrasil, the World Tree, it does make sense that Niddhog, the dragon that eats and corrupts the roots, would be placed in the foundation. Also, Yggdrasil connects all 9 worlds on different planes.

Dr. Ash and the Foundation are my favorite part of Control lore.

Crack-pot hypothesis: The inverted pyramid you see in the astral realm actually has five sides, two of which we cannot see, or the board does not allow us to see.

Some pieces of anecdotal evidence:
It looks strange looking directly at it, like we are seeing more of its sides than we should.
There are five slabs, in a macro entanglement with the nail.
Additionally, the Astral Plane is wacky; Measurements and what you see may not necessarily be what is there.

This was great, the lore of this game is fascinating.

I think its interesting how some of the characters in control are like vessels or avatars for more powerful entities like northmoor is controlled by the board, Jessie is polaris and the hiss for Dylan

I would not be surprised if we encounter what happened to Dr. Ash in future Control games.

A man that connected to the House, who knew why it invited humans in, seeing his biggest opposition sealed in a sarcophagus... With Northmoor gone there was likely nothing stopping him from going back down into the Foundation.

I bet this character was named after the house on Ash Tree Lane. The oldest house, the house of leaves. The world tree.

If the collective unconscious creates things like Objects of Power, then the "unconscious" part of that collective unconscious could be a "collective" Id. If this collective "Id" gained sentience, then that would explain exactly what the Board is. The Board is what happens when the collective unconscious becomes aware of itself.

one of my favourite characters with one of my favourite quotes ever “for whom among us has touched the foundations of this world and deemed them solid?” has been etched into my brain since I first played Control and firmly cemented my love for the game, thank you for the wonderful retelling your videos are an absolute joy to take in

Amazing video! After I played Foundation especially, I couldn't help but get the sense that the Board is as much a parasite on the Oldest House as the Hiss and Mould are - and the Nail is the anchor point of their control over it.

Really makes me wonder why Former dissented from the Board!

I’m a Remedy fan, I love Control and Alan Wake lore. Your videos are top notch and I really appreciate your hard work and attention to detail. Thanks!

10:01 it didn’t strike me till hearing someone else read it out loud but it’s interesting to me that this is written like the board speaks

I just noticed that northmoor, in the letter to ash about withdrawing, he talks like the board. He Uses slashes and alt words to describe himself, Its probably what the board told him what his title was.

I hope they don't drop these intricate lore bits with the more action oriented gameplay on the sequel. I love the remedyverse

Seems like every leader of the FDC has some kind of Paranatural entity they have faith in. Northmoor and The Board, Trench and The Hiss, Ash and The Oldest House, Darling and Hedron, Jesse and Polaris. Does humanity have any true agency in the setting, or are we dependent on latching ourselves to greater wills and hoping they have our best interests in mind?

So glad I found this channel. Was a huge fan of control beat it mutiple times except for the last dlc because im dumb. But just recently having bought Control Resonant I found myself falling back in love with the lore. Being obsessed with Dr. Carl Jung, this game feels like it was made for people who yearn for a deeper psychological meaning in their videogames/ media. Also your voice is *chefs kiss. I think I love you?
