This was one of the greatest RWCs of all time. A few years later there was wholesale law changes to the game, something the late Frank Keating, rugby correspondent for decades, said was totally unnecessary, because of the success of the 1991 RWC. Since that time, more law changes have turned rugby union into some sort of game of rugby league. Perhaps if the laws were kept pretty much as they were in 1991, even the scoring, there'd be no points inflation and real rucking and mauling without legalized obstruction. Maybe then the mid-field would be re-opened.
I watched Wales play Western Samoa at Cardiff Arms Park at this world cup, gutted by the loss but Samoa had a string of NZ players. Australia only beat them by 6. Wales had lost so many players to rugby league too, not a great side we had 1990-1991. Shame the footage is blurry could have looked for myself in the crowd.
