How did the camera become a weapon in one of the most important liberation wars of the 20th century?
In this documentary, we discover the incredible story of Stefan Labudović, the personal photographer of Yugoslav President Josip Broz Tito, who spent three years amidst the horrors of the Algerian War of Independence, documenting its events through his lens.
After decades of neglect, a rare and unpublished archive of footage shot on 35mm film has been discovered in Belgrade, revealing how the Algerian National Liberation Front (FLN) used media and cinema as political and diplomatic tools to confront French colonialism.
The film recounts how photographs and films succeeded in conveying the suffering of Algerians to the world, and how the struggle shifted from the mountains and villages to the halls of the United Nations, where visual propaganda played a pivotal role in gaining international support for the cause of independence.
Watch the full story of the Algerian Revolution's photographer and the hidden role that cinema and media played in changing the course of history and creating one of the most prominent examples of information warfare in the modern era.
