But I want to mention; there is an upcoming movie with a single car at the centre of the show I’m very hopeful for.

Sung Kangs movie Legends of Drift.

Yeah I know it’s an 86 again and people already love that car from Initial D.

BUT it’s a modern film, AND it stands out in its own way.

Here’s hoping the movie matches the hype

The concept of a "hero car" implies the existence of a "villain car".

Back then Fast & Furious cars were their own characters, now they just drive random shit that appears out of nowhere.

18 years later and i still want my damn Camaro from Transformers

Lets not forget that, in 2005 mw, all the blacklist cars also hits hard. Earl's evo, baron's caymen, Webster's corvette etc etc

I think the closest thing to a Hero Car we have got in "recent" years (from the 2010s) is Ken Block's Hoonicorn. That car has been in almost every important car game (sometimes also with a major role), like in NFS 2015 and Forza, it went to Goodwood, it was everywhere also on the internet thanks to Gymkhanas and all the crazy stuff they did. Now, with what happened to Ken (RIP), it has even more of a legendary status imo

You forgot to talk about the car that is a Hero, Herbie

Elenor from Gone in 60 seconds was iconic and was its own character in said movie

i mean we live in a time where cars will instead siphon your data and charge microtransactions for air conditioning so it's hard to be excited about cars anymore

Initial D was filled with iconic cars and characters. Takumi’s iconic Panda trueno. But the other cars where so memorable aswell, Keisuke’s Yellow RX7 FD and ryosuke’s White RX7 FC. The red Honda civic trying to kill takumi.

One thing to note about NFS Unbound, is that they tried the whole “give you a car in the beginning then strip it away from you” thing again. Though it fell flat because imo they just didn’t fully commit to giving you a hero car in the beginning. Instead you pick from one of three cars and build it up, customize it, and then it kinda just gets stolen. In theory that should make you more attached to it and motivated to get it back, but it fails because it doesn’t feel like that much of a special car.

It worked for NFS MW despite handing you a car that isn’t “yours” because, yeah it looks absolutely stunning, but also because it just shows up with no backstory and gives you this late-game power in the beginning then strips it away from you in such a disrespectful way that makes you feel like actually was yours even though you didn’t purchase it or customize it during actual gameplay.

The Mustang GT from Need For Speed movie was quite cool & a bit iconic.

NFS Heat's "Hero Car" had it so badly, a custom modified Polestar 1 with a very striking yellow and massive wing. Basically a new icon for the modern NFS games after the mixed reviews of NFS Payback.  It even got a real life reproduction and all it was regulated to a intro mission for a character that nobody cares about. It could've been a new face but they did nothing to it.

Bumblebee’s the only reason we got Camaro back for sure. I’d say the new Sung Kang movie Drift, should bring the upcoming generation some unrealistic costing heroes! 12:14
