Christa Pike: Time to end the death penalty in America?

Good Morning Britain

Death row inmate Christa Pike regained consciousness roughly six days after Tennessee’s failed attempt to execute her and was “speaking limitedly," one of her attorneys said during a court hearing Wednesday.

Pike, 50, survived even after executioners tried to give her two lethal doses of pentobarbital on September 30. She was sentenced to death for the 1995 beating and stabbing death of classmate Colleen Slemmer.

She is the only person known to have survived the lethal injection in the US, leaving many unanswered questions about what went wrong.

The botched attempt is tantamount to torture and is cruel and unusual punishment. I thought that was against the law in America!

Got to remember there's not "one America" here in the USA. There are huge regional differences. All across the north (such as New York here) we think this stuff is as bizarre as you do. But then you have southern states like Tennessee and its a whole other world.

Violence upon violence and hatred upon hatred has always been a horrific horror story. Look around.

The victim's mother can be satisfied that Krista survived. After 30 years, she finally saw justice served for her daughter, and the death penalty was carried out. It is not Krista's fault that she survived; the victim's mother should direct her anger at the state. Krista continues to suffer—both mentally and physically—in a way that is worse than death.Subjecting someone to execution a second time—as certain individuals (like the governor) still desire, driven by anger over their own incompetence and utterly indifferent to the family's pain—is a barbaric, sadistic act. Krista should have received a life sentence; the punishment was carried out, and she continues to pay for her crime. She has suffered enough.

No sympathy for her what so ever it's nothing compared to what she did to the victim Colleen

If she survives let her go she has suffered enough

Would this be such a big story worldwide if this was a man that committed the same crime?

Typical mainstream media forgetting that Pike murdered another person and kept a piece of the victim's skull as a memento.

What will happen?after she has recovered and after they amputate her totally ruined arm(s) probably they try to execute her again of course,
the whole affair has turned into a 16th century witch hunt and all this in a modern Christian country, emotions and revenge should not be above the law that is medieval.

Beyond hypocritical that the US can criticise Middle Eastern countries about their Death penalty systems....
