Mana tithing a turn one ragavan is maybe the single best thing I've seen in magic in a long time.

I wish I could've seen the desert player's face when you gained the life in response when they thought they had you

Y'shtola is a perfect example of a fun commander who is forced to play hard control in brawl because of the meta.

@SneakyMuskrat 1 year ago

Y'shtola came in so clutch for that crazy comeback in the 4th game.

Ripples is amazing in my Necrobloom deck. Feeds the dredge long after it's been removed, but when its still there on the field it's just pure value.

@munglay 1 year ago

lmao that yuriko player game 1 had no idea what they were doing

@leonardodavinci5902 1 year ago (edited)

ty cgb!!!!! what control piles are you playing for fun these days? any spicy homebrews?

@itsjaivn 1 year ago

Dark Ritual and Yahenni's were made for each other.

Y’shtola is super fun!

34:25 This is why you ALWAYS pay the 1. No matter how much it hurts. My god. Not only is a card worth 2, but the card and mana you're going to have to spend to deal with the answer or threat you've just drawn your opponent will never be outweighed by paying the smallest cost in the game. This ain't Smothering Tithe we're talking about.

yay it's brawl season!!

@inscrutablewut 1 year ago

Brawl looks entirely too sweaty. It's like your average "casual" table at the LGS but everyone is secretly trying to get as close to cEDH as possible without getting called out for it.

@joeygatlin5419 1 year ago

I love watching some Brawl but man do I dislike playing it. Always felt EDH was meant to be a 4 player+ format while 60 was reserved for 1v1s.

Honestly the variety that made brawl fun has gone out the window. 95% of matchups are against the same 10 commanders and you can already guess what 95% of their cards are going to be. You either play something different and interesting and get punished for it or you play something "good" and it comes down to chance of who went first/ drew mana drain/chrome mox. Very little to no skill involved thanks to the matchmaking system that eliminates that variance so skill-determined games are exceedingly rare. I used to love this format so much but now it feels like such a chore everytime I queue up that I've just uninstalled arena. Miserable horrible experience. Still fun to watch others play though like cgb and lvd

Typical yuriko player. Honestly i think people build decks they see, but don't fully understand how to pilot it.

@danlewis7707 1 year ago

Brawl is not about rank, though your win rate and card /commander choices do play into your match ups, it is a test of your deck building ability. People whine about the amount of control and super fast aggro in the format. Build decks that play jank or pick a jank commander. Your match ups will change. You can hardly complain about being matched to strategies that make it hard to enjoy the game if you build decks that are as cut throat as possible or durdle around not accomplishing anything for too long.

That is the skill. Can you learn from your mistakes and meta game without having someone build your deck and side board for you? Can you build a consistent mana base?

If you like brewing and don't mind a challenge then brawl is great. If you want to play the most egregious card design errors you can and lands? Timeless. Enjoy playing combo or being crushed by random aggressive decks you can't stop because you are trying to beat combo? Historic Best of one.

However, Brawl is in the middle. It can be fun, but you have to build a deck that can play fun cards but still works reasonably quickly toward a realistic endgame and has interaction of some kind to protect that.

Or you could shuffle up a Baral, Chief of Compliance deck and then scoop every game to see if you can get free wins. People seem to enjoy that.

these comments are filled with crybabies... if this shit isnt for you: sweaty gameplay, "unfun" play patterns, overpowered cardpool, then just move on... you complaining in the comments of a youtubers second channel isnt going to change anything
