Hospice nurses Maggie Callanan and Patricia Kelley have shared the case of a 93-year-old Chinese Patient dying of cancer who had recurrent visions of her deceased husband calling her to join him. One day, much to her puzzlement, she saw her sister with her husband, and both of them were calling her to join them. She told her hospice nurse that her sister was still alive in China, and that she hadn’t seen her for many years. When the hospice nurse later reported this conversation to the Patient's daughter, the daughter stated that her mother's sister had in fact died two days earlier of the same kind of cancer, but that the family had decided not to tell her mom to avoid upsetting or frightening her. When her daughter told her mother about her sister’s illness and death, she relaxed, the puzzle solved, and she died at peace shortly thereafter.

It can be such a harsh world. As adults, we have at least a small ability to protect ourselves from it and from the people who mean us harm. But children have no way of defending themselves. Making manners worse, so many of us carry earlier traumas with us and it’s so easy to let them inhibit future relationships with people who would otherwise be a blessing to our lives.

I’m sorry you went through what you went through. And I’m so glad that your life is now on such a good course. Blessings to you my friend.

Thank you for sharing your heart wrenching yet hopeful journey. Hearing your words and experiences touched me to the core. Our son recently transitioned by suicide at 33 and your earlier life paths were sadly similar. I’m the loving mom missing our baby. Glad you made it Branden. 🙏🏼💕

I too was raised a witness, also molested for years. Removed from school at 13, I’ve been shunned for 28 years. For the shunning has been the most difficult- to be erased over night is mind bending. I hope you are doing well with the weight of it all
