The whole earth had one language and the same words. On the plain of Shinar, the descendants of Noah learned to fire brick and set it in bitumen, and they began to build a city and a tower with its top in the heavens, so that they would never be scattered. This is the story of Babel, told from Genesis 10 and 11: the plain, the kilns, the tower, the morning the words fell apart, and the families walking out in every direction into a world of many tongues.

A quiet, reverent retelling for listening, reflection or rest.
