"Not everyone needed a guitarist, but everyone needed a bassist." Some things never change.

Last time I came this early, someone was very disappointed.

The recorded sections of these basses really goes to show how amps, cabs, mics etc can make any bass sound good if the person recording knows what they are doing. They sound PHENOMENAL

that colour matching pants zipper with the flying v is absolute cinema hahahahaha

Hahaha, I was literally saying along with you "Carol Fucking Kaye" when it got to that. Exact same example and phrasing I always use for that argument. 🤘🤘

There is another side to the to pick or not to pick discussion which is physical disabilities. I have a tremor in my hands which means all my muscles in my hand tenses very quickly when trying to finger style play at any normal metal speeds, playing with a pick on the other hand allows me to move the offload this tension to my wrists/arm/shoulder which makes it easier for me to play faster and is significantly more comfortable. It also helps me get a significantly more aggressive tone one slower songs because there is more mass behind each strike of the strings.

I'm not a bassist but I still want a Dingwall Nolly 5 string.

Perfect
Thank you

3:19 went a direction I wasn't expecting, lol. I love it.

I may be a dyed in the wool pro bassist, but I don't see anything wrong here, sir! One of my main players is a hot-rodded Squier Jazz bass; new pickups, new bridge, better electronics (and a series-parallel push/pull), and that thing is a tone monster! I still prefer my old Rickenbacker, but that's just the single most comfortable-to-play bass I've ever known, so it's not really a fair fight. Lots of folks around here tend to agree that "If it sounds good, it is good"... I'm not one to argue! I may prefer fingers to pick, but that's just personal preference and nothing else. Rock on, Colin!

3:24. You should have screamed that line. That shit needs to be heard around the world!

As a guitar player I've always wanted a Bass , never cared for Fender or the regular culprits lol. I ended up looking at what Bass players were using that I loved the sound of. Curiously enough they all turned out to be playing Spector Basses. I can't drop 3-4K for one, it I was in a local music shop and they had the Spector Performer 4 an entry level one, $600.0 Cad. With tax. I was absolutely blown away by how amazing they sounded and how fast the necks are. The only thing I did was copper foil shield the electronics cavities and installed Ratio machine heads and wow what a monster!

3:19 YOU ARE A LEGEND HAHAHAHA

P-Bass, some dirt and using picks, that’s my favorite sound. It works so well across so many genres of rock. I was fortunate enough to find an 80s Japanese P-Bass for $200 back in the early 2000’s.

7:20 “…which naturally means not thinking too much about my equipment.” While this can easily be a dig at bassists (and it probably was), as a bassist myself, I actually agree with this. I like finding the tone that fits my bass and style of playing, knowing it’s reliable for both myself and FOH guys, and then I just leave it!

@Hakamin1987 1 year ago

Rules for playing bass; 1, can you afford it. 2, Is it comfortable to play. 3, does it sound good. 4, is it fun. If you answered yes to all these, the you're good to go. As far as pick vs fingers? It's a non argument, and covered in rule 2! And anyway, originally people played with their thumb, so technically, we're all wrong! :-P

Keep on rocking!

Hrm, the Priest bits sound off but I think I can see where you've gone wrong. Insufficient spiked bracers is the cause I think, I also notice a distinct lack of a motorcycle for you to suggestively straddle.

Went to see three local punk bands the other week. All kinds of guitars on stage, albeit mostly Gibson copies, but only one model of bass. Bet you can all guess which one...
