◼︎ Recently, research results revealed the discovery of a human mummy in northern Vietnam that is up to 14,000 years old.
Various mummies have also been found on the Korean Peninsula; a mummy dating back over 300 years, discovered in Yangju, Gyeonggi Province in 2002, garnered significant attention when its identity was confirmed. This "boy mummy," which underwent the nation's first detailed investigation, was surprisingly identified as a five-and-a-half-year-old child.
DNA analysis confirmed that the child was a descendant of the Haepyeong Yun clan, and his clothing verified that he was a figure from the 1600s. In particular, the revelation that the cloth wrapping the mummy belonged to his parents brought deep emotion by demonstrating the parents' poignant love for their deceased child. Although the boy mummy lived a short life, he holds great value as a "time capsule" that preserves the history and culture of the mid-Joseon Dynasty intact within his body.
