Retro Painting: Space Marine Chapters of the 2nd Tyrannic War

Minisodes

Two and a half centuries after Hive Fleet Behemoth was halted at Macragge, the Tyranids returned with a new hive fleet, Hive Fleet Kraken! Foremost amongst the billion strong defenders that faced this cosmic horror, were the Space Marines. But what chapters took part in this cataclysmic struggle, and what became of them?

In this video, I go old school and paint three Space Marines from Chapters pitted against this terrifying threat FROM BEYOND!

"but i reach for the goblin green"

you chose.............wisely

The knights of eternity, i had never heard of, have a really nice colour scheme on them it seems.

The longer I stare at that Ultramarine the more I'm convinced he's just a cartoon character deadpanning at the audience after something heavy fell on his head. Also, to me the Lamenter looks to be keeping the skull has a reminder of why they fight, but the idea that he uses the skull of a brother for advice and orders is a fun idea. Lovey job on all three by the way.

That ultramarine looks absolutely badass, I’ve never seen that sculpt I love it!

This is one of my new favorite channels I love the aesthetic of older Warhammer minis

I really like how you link the devestator marine’s basing in with his squad designation.

Often bolter marines don’t feel like they fit a devestator squad vibe - but by creating the impression he has been stood firing in one place for quite some time you overcame that.

How have I only just found this channel??? Retro painting is my favourite YouTube content. Your painting videos and battle reports are just beautifully made! I subscribed after watching this video then binge watched the rest of the videos over two days! Brilliant content

"Very space, much marine" I just about spit out my beer I was drinking! A vintage meme for vintage miniatures.
Exceptional video; gorgeous minis, wonderful and achievable paintjobs, and a lovely trip down memory lane. What more could one ask for? And the fact that you gave such an obscure Chapter as the Knights of Eternity a bit of love is truly commendable, their sacrifice was not in vain.

"just a shame about the base" ... good sir, i must insist you take that back! Goblin green is correct!

Mk. VIII was my favourite sculpt. Your presentation is beautiful, but I remember him as an unattainable model, painted in Mentors white and green 💚

Mate I remember those accurate painting days of the Halcyon era. Awesome work 😃👍👍

You reached for the goblin green because you knew it was superior to any gritty base you would otherwise make

@roochman 3 years ago

Awesome! The Knight of Eternity in particular looks really cool, you don't really see much of those guys

That is exactly how I paint my Lamenters I wouldn't paint yellow without contrast anymore. Brilliant paint job.

Beautiful paintjobs on these miniatures, Was a joy to watch. Got a nice wave of nostalgia looking at these older models and remembering my own from back then. You've inspired me to go to my desk and do some painting.

The way you describe every marine’s pose makes me think of the love and care

Your painting style makes me smile.

I appreciate these videos, and also how you bring in the background details of what you are painting. Mentioning the bold move to board a hive ship with scouts is an awesome one

The yellow-over-pink is actually to do with CMYK colour theory - the pink you're using is better thought of as magenta, and in CMYK when you mix magenta and yellow you get orange. So, yellow over pink gives smooth orange-y shadows. Dana Howl has a video about it, really blew my mind and opened up a lot of new ideas for mini painting!
