Nobody ever explained it with so much clarity. Gaaah... 😢 ... I have been sold an imitation garter bar with no grooves. It means pulling the stitches on manually.

Thank you for this clear video! Some notes:

1. If you're using a second-hand garter bar set, make sure they're as flat as possible!  I struggled with one set until I realized it was slightly bowed. (I was able to bend it back.) Individual teeth can also be bent out of place.

2. I usually close the latches before pulling the knitting forward, to ease the transfer.

3. Thank you for noting "parallel to the floor"! As a beginner, I hadn't been tilting the bar far enough. That also means that the latches should be as open and flat as possible, so they're out of the way as you position the bar.
