Remember. Nickelodeon rejected shows like Ed, Edd n Eddy, Adventure Time, Stevem Universe and they ended up being massive hits on Cartoon Network.

"WHO ARE YOU PEOPLE?" - Patrick Star

I remember when Cartoon Network characters crossed onto Nickelodeon during a commercial when I was a kid. Comedy gold!

I recall reading if wasn’t just the old “Looney Tunes” shorts that inspired Nickelodeon’s decision into produce original creator-driven cartoons, but also the enormous success of “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” in the late eighties. It’s crazy to think that, had that film bombed, we wouldn't have gotten Nicktoons and Cartoon Network, but also the Disney Renaissance, Fox Kids, the Looney Tunes resurgence of the ‘90s, and even Dreamworks.

R.I.P. Ted Turner

I remember a commercial where Cartoon Network characters were on Nickelodeon promoting their shows

How sad is it that both Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network used to be all about creativity and competition, nowadays they’re just on life support while filing bankruptcy. I can’t imagine how shows like Phineas and Ferb or adventure time would be do if Nickelodeon hadn’t rejected them. Matter of fact, if invader Zim was put on Cartoon Network or on adult Swim it could’ve been a massive success right next to Boondocks or Rick and Morty.

Cartoon Network: Thank you, Nickelodeon! I wouldn't have pulled it off without you!

I do enjoy the fact that Family Guy's Seth MacFarlane and FOP/DP's Butch Hartmann once collaborated on a show.

It was called Johnny Bravo (season 1 only).

It's 2026, and Paramount and Warner Bros both hate their cartoon studios' abusive step dad Vibes 😢

We need a 2026 Cartoon Network vs. Nickelodeon beef. 😂

Nickelodeon’s losses are Cartoon Network and Disney Channel’s gains. I can only imagine their reactions when Adventure Time became a universally popular series and cash cow.

So basically, it’s a Nintendo and Sony situation where the successful group indirectly creates their nee rival 😂

The irony of a channel dedicated to kid's cartoons making Rocko's Modern Life

Should've kept the story going. After the success of the What A Cartoon pilots, Fred Seibert created the independent Frederator Studios and launched a similar pilot anthology series Oh Yeah! Cartoons for Nickelodeon, which berthed shows like Fairly OddParents, Chalkzone, and My Life as a Teenage Robot. A later Frederator anthology series would then release the pilot for Adventure Time, which Nickelodeon passed on but became a huge success for Cartoon Network.

Swat kat and two stupid dog was awesome

0:00 It probably is worth mentioning the existence of Disney Channel. Although it did debut after Nickelodeon and was "family oriented", it also was a channel that kids could watch throughout the day due to it airing Disney's G rated movies and original programming that, although unrated back then would go on to be rated TV-Y and TV-G after the TV rating system was introduced.

80s Nickelodeon is underrated

Funny thing its not just Cartoon Network that had shows affected by Nickelodeon Disney did too the proud family and phineas&ferb being the most prominent examples the former was originally  intended to air on Nickelodeon but was picked up by Disney channel most likely because it’s creator Bruce w. Smith was a Disney animator at the time

I was three years old when I gained consciousness and awareness than I’m a playable character. I gained that at the end of Rugrats The Movie in theaters November 1998. I am so thankful for Nickelodeon. Rugrats is my favorite cartoon and still watch the orange VHS tapes on my CRT TV today at 31.
