We went for an air2air via ceiling vents to get the best of both worlds, Aircon and heating!

Minimal disruption and it keeps our house at 20'c for around 0.4-0.5kwh!

Not to mention it also filters the air and dehumidifies!

Good video.

I would absolutely explore other HP installation options as well as through Heat Geek. They are innovative and a good starting point but I absolutely wouldnt recommend just consulting them. They can be very fixed and simplistic with their designs, and not very flexible to tweaks and changes that you might want to make to the design to make it 'yours'.

All quite fair and informative.
Although the zero disrupt, as they aren’t doing much apart from putting in an outside unit, should really be much cheaper. Should be possible within the cost of the grant as the hardware costs will be no more than 4k.

By adding a low cost (<£2000) battery system eg Anker Solix E5000 or Ecoflow Steam 5000 5kWh and using a heat pump tariff like Octopus Cosy you can halve both the heating costs and all the other electrical costs. Octopus Cosy provides 3 off-peak periods totalling 8 hours allowing even a small 5kWh battery to deliver 30kWh or more of off-peak.
The payback period for this is maybe only 2 years and the battery should last for at least 10 years.

I’m switching from oil to a heat pump with HeatGeek. My only issue is waiting for an installation date, but at least I have a date for my solar and battery installation. By the way adverts for replacement gas boilers keep popping up on YouTube with stating prices of about £2,500!

@johnwilkins2023 13 hours ago

I got a Heat geek quote. Initial estimate with new cylinder and 7kw Vaillant was about £5,500 but after survey the price went up to £8,700 and this was with zero radiator changes. I was disappointed, at initial estimate I probably would have gone ahead.

Had a quote like yourself (needed a cylinder though) but due to the small savings a year and the 30 year payback for the extra risk, worry and unknowns, decided to have another gas boiler instead. Running weather comp with very low temperatures and I'm very happy to stick with it. Every man and his dog is putting out videos promoting heat pumps (like this one) as the bottom line is that installs are dropping off. Total installs to date in UK is less than 1% of heating systems. The moment that grant goes, heat pump installs will be a distant memory as prices will rocket up (not down). If you have solar/battery installed like yourself, then it makes more sense than to others. I look forward to Heat Pump videos in 7 years time to see how people are still getting on with them after the warranty has gone. Will it still be running efficiently (if at all) after all those years being exposed to the elements? In the right circumstances I think heat pumps are a smart choice, but I'm starting to get sick of hearing about them as it's like listening to a stuck record playing over and over again. Best of luck with your install.

Just fitted mine, no radiator upgrades. 40mm underground ducted pipework to move the outdoor unit away from the house by a short distance. 35mm primary pipe inside. With all the extra pipe and fittings I’m at easy 2k in extra materials.
My point is prices won’t come down much when the grant runs out so much of the cost is in labour and materials to do them properly.

What is your Flow Temp and what is your hot water target Temp?

@user-bc9yi5pk7d 21 hours ago

No, thank you, why would I want to increase my total heat demand by 75% 😊

This has been known for many, many years.
Even people who make and sell these things have publicly admitted these things are not a one size fits all solution.
That is unlike the lies our government to date is selling us.
Sorry, but the whole carbon footprint thing 99% of people do not care about, it's running cost what matters.
I installed solar 10 years ago, it has paid for itself big style, carbon foot print didn't come into it.

@garybradley2171 1 day ago

So for £10k (excluding taxpayer £7.5k bribe) you are saving £70 PA? 0.7% ROI🤷‍♂️

@dgmclar 21 hours ago

HOLD ON!!! You literally completely avoided the cost to run question.

It costs more , alot more if you don't have solar and battery storage like you do, why not be honest and give an actual price.

Also you make a political point about how gas etc is going to go up but then you talk about it as if cheap night rate electric will go on forever.
If everyone does this it would be more expensive to buy electric at night, and thats only going to go up every year
