i just noticed a connection that i didnt see befoe.
Manus has been driven wild and is no more than a crazed beast when we find him, yet even in this mindless, destructive and absolutely crazy state, he recognizes the broken pendant we have and "wants" it so much that he trancendes time to pull us and the pendant into the past, ultimately sealing his fate because he cant control his want.
now, in DS2 you have Manus' strongest shard beeing Nashandra, the manifestation of Manus' want, pulling all the strings because she still retains her fathers uncontrollable want.
I guess that Kaathe probably wanted the people of Oolacile to ressurect Manus so that he could become the new Dark Lord, but they had other ideas, as the dark serpent does complain about "fools" who have failed him before.
Karla's "But I am guilty, a wretched child of the Abyss" comment has always puzzled me because all humans are wretched children of the Abyss, something Karla actually knows herself. Then there are hints that Zullie and Alva are her parents which throws a spanner into the works that Karla is Manus' child, unless we consider grandchild as acceptable. While I don't disagree with the idea that Karla is referring to Manus when she says she's a wretched child of the Abyss, I feel like the lore community hasn't exhausted the other possibilities with what it could really mean. One possibility could be that she's guilty of heretical abyssal sorceries, which makes even more sense when she says she's no different to the monstrosities in the Profaned Capital. Perhaps she was one that didn't mutate.
It's interesting to make Karla a possible descendent of the abyss since, iirc Zullie isn't ever mentioned as such. I choose to believe both that Zullie is Karla's mom and that Karla's got that abyss in her so Zullie having Manus DNA is basically bonus lore.
The abyss watchers absolutely did not learn anything from Artorias. They also fell to the abyss, although they ironically did far more to fight the abyss than Artorias ever did before succumbing. It's why their eyes glow red and they fight each other. They vowed to stamp out the abyss, wherever it emerged, and so they uphold their vows forever, until the ashen one comes along and encourages their return to the throne
The Ivory king is the ultra gigachad of darksouls 2,he tamed a piece of friggin Manus,he faced the embodiment of the demons themselves which is the flame of chaos AND EVEN BURNED BY IT he is a force to be reckoned with.
Describing Manus as "some Bowser type figure," is hilarious lol. sorry to hear you were not feelin' so hot bro. Hope you have a jolly 2024 and looking forward to vibing out with y'all. 22:08 I actually find Karla charming. Yea, she might be smelly but wouldn't you be after so long in a dungeon?? If you manage to peer under her hat, she's really very cute
I never really thought of the fact that dark souls 2 is almost a literal follow up to the end of the Dark Souls 1 DLC. That's so cool. I didn't think it was possible to love DS2 more, but here we are
I guess it's safe to say that it was the abyss watchers that destroyed Oolacile burning it to Ashes suppressing the Abyss by any means necessary.
In Dark Souls 1, When we first meet Oolacile and hear her first dialogue after summoning her, she says that her hometown of Oolacile was burned to ash. That is until we see the Artorias DLC where we Oolacile was being swallowed by the Abyss. for a long time I thought it was fully swallowed by the abyss. That is when I played Dark Souls 3 and learned about the Abyss Watchers.; and how they destroy lands and kingdoms showing any signs of the Abyss.
Then I remembered what Elizabeth said back in the DLC saying that the spread of the Abyss has been halted. after Manus "defeat" Leading me to believe that Oolacile was really burned to ashes just like Dusk said. The Abyss Watchers must have been formed shortly after those events and burnt Oolacile to the ground because traces of the Abyss still presided despite it being halted after manus defeat resulting in Elizabeth's death. Same goes for Dark Souls 1 Hub area. after the either linking the fire or becoming dark lord, The Abyss Watchers came back to lordran and burned that to the ground, because of the Abyss was unsealed in New Londo. Sen's fortress, undead burg and parish must have been destroyed as well. It would explain why we see the remains of those lands from Dark Souls 1 In Farron Keep.
