What looks like a massive cloud of glowing red smoke… isn’t actually smoke! 💀🔥
In this episode of The Haunt Prop Workshop, I build one of my craziest Halloween effects yet—a huge glowing red spawning cloud with a skeleton creature emerging from inside.
The effect starts with something incredibly simple: polyester fiberfill. I shape and airbrush the fiberfill to create shadows and depth, then add red lighting underneath to transform it into a massive glowing cloud. Skeleton parts emerging through the cloud make it look like something is actually being spawned from inside.
But I didn't stop with fake smoke.
I will also eventually incorporate real fog into the prop to add movement and make the entire effect feel alive. The combination of sculpted fiberfill, lighting, skeleton parts and moving fog creates an effect that looks completely different once the lights go out.
And, of course, Frank is hanging around the workshop while I'm trying to build the thing. That usually goes well. 😂
If you're into DIY Halloween props, haunted-house effects, skeleton builds, animatronics and turning ordinary materials into something creepy, you're in the right place.
