not sure how calli feels about it, but end of a life still feels like a masterpiece to me to this day. it's relatively simple and with really strong lyrics

Dad on dad review

Around 75 originals in 6 years, exploring a variety of styles. Evolving the whole way, and certainly not yet done.

vtubers are kinda different from regular artists because sometimes they lean more into their fictional lore. and thats a layer that normal pop artists just dont have.
another point is that vtubers tend to stream, and there is something to the autenthicity to someone streaming for 3-10 hours a day that you dont get from an artist that does a 15 minute interview here and there. so we get to know these vtubers in a completely different way compared to other artists.

And to think Calli wanted to discard "end of a life " is crazy. She has been consistently been my top artist for the last couple of years now, and end of a life is in my top 5 from Calli

So, end of a life came at a time where Calli was really struggling. It's very directly about the transition from her life before joining hololive, the way COVID affected so many of her friends and colleagues (and the Tokyo live music industry as a whole), and how the fallout from her becoming a hololive member caused several of the friends she had to be jealous/envious/upset at her sudden success in Hololive. Those things she's addressed quite directly in a stream explaining the lyrics.

This next bit is some speculation on my part. At the time this released, her previous persona had not been active basically since she joined hololive. I think she has been considering retiring her previous persona, and that the song has been intended as a farewell. She claimed she almost didn't release that song. Maybe it's just because of how personal it is, but I wonder if that's also because she ultimately chose not to retire her previous persona. She actually released some music under that persona quite close in time to when end of a life released, and did a live stream talking about it.

Again, this is speculation, but I get the feeling that as she struggled with whether to abandon her old persona, she ended up feeling inspired, chose not to, and instead chose to write that EP as a response to her inner struggles. Many of the songs on that EP are also notably personal, much moreso than most of her previous work under that persona.

Again, this is personal speculation on my part, but the timings and things she's said seem to point towards something more going on than she could freely talk about.

Calli is such a strong lyricist, which fits in well with her being a rapper first and a singer second.  She writes the words for most of her original songs, as well as writing them for her coworkers at times.

In regards to your question about the Let's Just Crash music video that you watched, it's an original music video with the pink hair main character being a version of Mori Calliope (think like an alternate outfit to her typical appearance) but has nothing to do visually with the Gachiakuta anime and contains none of the characters from the anime.

I also just wanted to say that not only did I truly enjoy your takes and application of your professional experience to music that I love, but I really like how you did your research on the songs, the artist and even the producers as well. You went out of your way to make sure you respected the artist and the surrounding community and it was awesome to hear someone who isn't entirely entwined with the Vtuber community use terms like "Oshi" or even the fandom names like "Deadbeats" - really giving fun uncle vibes here. Us Deadbeats would welcome you with open arms anytime!

Been a fan of Calli since before Hololive, End of a Life is one of her best songs. I do miss her rapping, but hearing her really embrace singing and rock has been a treat too.

as an older fan of Mori and her past this is the bridge between her past and present. its a goodbye and a thank you song while also being a start of a new chapter.

Calli is by far one of those stories that you wouldn't believe is real, an underground singer who got hit with the pandemic, made her lose the job she liked, just for fun she applied to a vtuber agency, PASSES, instead of feeling prideful and happy that her friend did something so crazy and succeeded, her friends turn on her, calling her things she never expected from them, this feeling "cursed" her for quite some time,  it was thanks to her genmates that she stopped feeling bad about ti, their support, love and care made her actually shed that problem once and for all and look at her, insane deals, singing openings for anime series, deals with high rank names, amazing.

I love her singing and her rapping, but her lyricism is genuinely special. The way she paints exact thoughts and emotions through metaphor and allusion that can still be so clearly be understood is just incredible. She's been one of my favorite artists for a good few years now because of it.

I love people reacting to Calli’s songs, especially the lyrics. Her slower songs like End of a life are some of the best displays of how poetic she can get

As a longtime Dead Beat, I'm always amazed by how her musical journey has evolved from RIP to today.

Fun fact, Calli also is friends with Urana Kei, the author of Gachiakuta, who designed the cover art for her album JIGOKU 6.

Thanks for an another amazing video man 🎉

If you're curious, it would be much longer, but there is an old stream Cali did after this song came out basically going over the production but more importantly she breaks down the lyrics of the song line by line and what it meant to her personally and what it calls back to. It's deeply emotional, I feel myself welling up thinking about a part of it, and might be worth a watch. Maybe not a full reaction video, maybe edited down to the important pieces, but if not for content maybe just for yourself to connect to the song on a deeper level.

The look in Let's Just Crash is very much made to fit into the music video. Calli's had a lot of outfits over the years with different themes, but her original outfit (which is most-frequently used in marketing) has much more of a cool, regal vibe.

Been a fan of hers for a while now, I love her style and flow, she's a vibe~

I remember she mentioned on a stream once that she was writing lyrics for 2 different songs. One happy and upbeat song (I think it ended up being Orpheus) took her a long time and she struggled with it. The other was a very emotional song and she knocked that one out in an afternoon since it was personal and she already knew what she wanted to say.
