No haruka if8 combat section, 0/10 video

My mind was blown about the fact the parry hitbox was that massive, especially with the fact you can parry your own inflicted hitboxes

52:33 p much why I like Yakuza combat, on a side note that’s also my main issue with Majima’s Mad Dog style in Pirate since every finisher except the first one all do the exact same thing with the only difference being the length of the slash loop.

as someone who plays the yakuza games fairly casually in terms of combat, i really appreciate what youre doing with this video series. i cant imagine the undertaking it is to not only research all the move properties, game mechanics, and setups created by the community, but also to organize it all into a video and present it in a digestable format. shoutouts to all the yakuza gamers for discovering and sharing their tech

you forgot to mention that yakuza 0's counter tech also works on enemies that are falling down stairs. You can use this to do counter loops by standing in front of them as they tumble down and style cancel your counters between brawler and dragon

Amazing video. Really enjoyed watching.
Looking forward to part 3.

I'll never forgive RGG for replacing Akiyama's Running T2 (heavy, heavy) infinite with crappy launchers that don't work. At least I think it was an infinite in Y4.

fuck yeeeeees real high quality stuff for true yakuza gamers, thanks so much for makin these homie

Very understandable complaints with Yakuza 5. Its boss design seems to fight against any combos at all. It will remain in my top 3 regardless 🐉

I expected some quality stuff and you did not disappoint.
I want to correct myself with my comment, I did some testing and I was completely wrong about getting more frame advantage the sooner you pick them up from the ground. The timing thing I mentioned is still true but I want to clarify I was wrong and don't want to spread misinformation.

On to Y0 I don't think you realize how good the slugger style switch move is. It is arguably his best move cause it deals a ton of hitstun, comes out instantly like frame 1 or something, huge hitbox, it doesn't have auto lock-on, it hits grounded, and is the best move to start back combos because for some reason it has a property that removes backturning. In short it's a move you can and should use in any situation

It allows Majima to use most of his moves in back combos (ok that's a stretch) so here's a list of Majima's options.
You can extend combos from Thug 2S, 3S n 4S if you quickstep cancel, 5S 7S and 8S, both T kicks and reverse T kick, all his quickstep attacks, all Breaker S hits, S 3T and T kick, Mad Dog S n 2S if you quickstep cancel, T n reverse T, C legsweep and even the spin (That one is stupidly hard).
This makes Majima actually somewhat kind of fun... I hate Y0 :)
Now is it a good solution to qcc? No not really. Is it as fun as watching paint dry? Yes but at least it's something.

Kiryu actually can use Dragon in style switch combos if you switch to beast after a move that staggers enough like all of Brawlers S hits. Important to note you can not switch back into the other styles to extend combos, so you wanna do this as a finisher of sorts.

I didn't know you could start wallbounds after Brawler 3STC, always glad to find new stuff.
Anyway continue to cook king! This video and part were🔥

Respect for the explaination on why you didn't like kiwami's combat.
Funnily enough your breakdown on kiwami's combat is why i like its combat so much, despite me only being able to execute weave cancel tech consistently and not even touch TFG.
Its options/freedom, enemy states and atks properties are always important and i would rather have them than not, but i almost always would prefer option/freedom over it in most action games. That's why i never really liked yakuza 3's combat, cause yes while moves are deliberate to make combos and there are some options it all felt too restrictive (i honestly like 4's combat more even if it had less sauce cause there where more moves to play with).
Sorry for the essay and great video series btw, I always thought it be cool if there was ever a piece of media that compiles and analyses yakuza advance combat and combos, its kinda of amazing this even exist and in such quality, you only get bits and pieces of this/one game from high level players that actually have their own channels, or on niches communities on something like discord. Can't wait for part 3.

YES pump this into my veins! The first video really opened my eyes to the depth of combat and noe there's more!

Another super quality video, these will definitely be my go-to when it comes to explaining the basics of yakuza combat depth to any potential new players. Looking forward to part 3, the dragon engine games have never really been my cup of tea but I’m curious to see what you have to say. Also still hoping and coping for the hgg section lmao, I think it would be awesome if that game got more love as it’s had a pretty awful reputation in the community due to some rather unfair judgements and biases. Great stuff tho, really awesome to see someone so dedicated to the depth of this series.

Goat RCombo mention

I feel like Kiwami really being the only game where the advanced combat prioritizes speed and cancelling makes it stand out when it comes to the advanced combat. While I do also prefer the design approach where combos should be more methodical I still enjoy how much raw mechanical skill is needed to perform the combos and I think that’s something that the game deserves praise for. One of the few yakuza games that I prefer without legend remix or other mods alongside 3 and 4. Amazing video can’t wait for part 3

How'd you get Mine's rating for each game? I thought he died from falling off the ruff.

good video however there's multiple bits of misinformation in the yakuza 5 segment i'd like to point out:
1. the faceplant knockdown does not give the enemy "hyper armor", they are just counted as grounded much earlier like every other knockdown besides the rollover
they aren't counted as grounded immediately though, and this allows for certain attacks to continue hitting completely or even continue a knockdown combo (such as nunchuks' rush combo, brass knuckles' special attack, akiyama's slash kicks, his running attacks with some precise positioning, dragon spirit's 2 quick body blows at the end of the rush combo, akiyama's kicks after the first reversal, launch strike)

2. dragon spirit allows for so much more than just "basic knockdown combos" (whatever that means anyway)
dragon spirit's ST is the only player move in the game that inflicts the gut stun during knockdown combos as far as i'm aware, and this gives you a couple options. either end the combo with a grab (usually trying to grab in a knockdown combo just counts as a hit and it does the rollover), continue it with a light attack or the heavy kick (usually better for positioning purposes, specially against bosses as they can just change their trajectory for no reason at all), or time a heavy kick to hit rather late, causing the "trip" hit reaction to happen and allowing you to try a grab which lets you continue with whatever you please
dragon spirit has the unique feature of any move being cancellable via a grab. the grab is also cancellable with a heavy attack or a light attack. the heavy attack is also cancellable with a light attack (alongside the grab obviously. this allows for some silly looking loops but it does have some use in trying to change your positioning)
dragon spirit also has the feature of basically its entire rush combo being usable in a knockdown combo and besides the last 2 hits, it all uses the rollover animation so most of it allows for follow ups (the first 2 light attacks have little recovery letting you exit dragon spirit and combo off that or use the dash and keep going with that)
dragon spirit also allows for some very easy conversions off a wallstun from an enemy that's facing away from the wall. just try to get behind them as they're slowly falling to the ground, interrupt the wallstun with a light attack or two then repeat the dash until you've reached the other wall

3. akiyama actually has a boss without knockdown immunity that you can access! it's hakamada, you can easily access him via ultimate match 3
the arena also has a pseudo corner which is VERY good too alongside some actual walls (they're a bit inconsistent in my experience though. not that big of an issue cus akiyama still gets some stuff without wallsplats)

4. the reversal tech actually has some usage in wallsplats besides looking cool. because you're considered to not be facing the opponent as you do the reversal, when you do the quickstep cancel you don't move a lot, as the game tries to correct your positioning and this will allow for easier quickstep strike followups, as sometimes if you try just doing the light attack and then do the quickstep strike you'll reach their side and the combo will end

A ps4 and a ps3 is all you need to enjoy PEAK. I love the vibe of yakuza 5, the ost and the pure amount of content, but i admit that it is only the best for casual play. Great video!

I just wanted to add some things for shinada
-if you do his second heavy into a bounding throw you can use his heavy to kick the enemy up after to splat
-Shinada has some crazy tech that helps setup combos and continue splats with his grab cancel out of a light attack
-shinadas entire rush combo can bound, you can loop this but it has weird consistency
-same applies to S ST though it has better consistency than his rush combo
-meteor tackle tech
-shinadas insane tonfa tech
-starting bounds from splats

Also I’m not sure if bound is the right word for what I’m talking about, whenever I say bound I’m talking about how you can combo off the roll over animation. Also, if you want to combo off shinadas bosses I suggest his first two since they don’t have cat like reflexes and their move sets aren’t that bad, and their environments got good setup. I kinda wish you went over dragon spirit more since there aren’t really any guides for it but still, great video

Been waiting for this one! It's always great to have something approachable to send someone if they are interested in the advanced combat.
