One of the most controversial moments in Bob Dylan's long career occurred near the end of his 1966 World Tour at a concert in Manchester, England, when a member of the crowd shouted out "Judas" just as he and his backing band were about to play "Like a Rolling Stone."

It is assumed that that person was one of many around the world who were unhappy with Bob's new electric sound introduced at the Newport Folk Festival in August of 1965. Many traditional Folk music fans were incensed by him leaving acoustic folk music behind and adopting more of a Rock n' Roll sound.

This video features a short clip of the incident at the Manchester Free Trade Hall, frequently misidentified as the Royal Albert Hall in London, followed by a discussion with my long-time friend Howard Appell.

Howard and I founded our first YouTube channel, "Two Old Men in Chairs" in 2022 (Now called The Clarion Call channel), however health issues forced him to retire later that year. Thankfully his health has improved enough that he can now join me on my Dylan channel.

If you want to see more of Howard, there are 3 of our early reactions on this channel, and a lot more on the main channel at:

I have created a new playlist of Dylan videos that Howard appears in here:

Since this is the first video we did together in over 4 years, we were a little rusty and didn't get to say everything we wanted about this incident. Look for Part II coming soon!

Also In honor of Bob’s 85th Birthday recently I wrote a 3,500 word Substack explaining why he is the true Voice of America. The Substack also has links to a lot of the videos on this channel:
