Honestly, I adored this movie sooo much. An original concept by Disney which is what we are severely lacking nowadays.

I remember it initially got so much hate because of the parallels to girl’s first ‘time of the month’ but like, bruh, you can’t shield your kids from EVERYTHING

As someone who was once a teenage girl surrounded by other teenage girls in the 2010s, Mei Mei's behavior was incredibly normal for her age. Around that age is when girls obsess over boybands and fanfics where you self-insert 🤣 I remember my friends and I nicknaming our crushes random character names from our favorite shows/movies/books/artists so we could openly talk about them without anyone else knowing! We loved One Direction, Fall Out Boy, 5 Seconds of Summer, etc., and would read/write fan fics about them as well as big pop culture things at the time like Harry Potter, like Draco Malfoy was that boy! It's completely cringey but very realistic.

One of my fave things about this film is Tyler’s arc. When it’s revealed he’s a fan the girls don’t ridicule or laugh at him, but they embrace him and welcome him into their group. So often bullies in films get their comeuppance but it’s clear to see he’s both lonely and ashamed to like something traditionally teenage girls like. Being accepted by the group and becoming their friend is really refreshing.

"you man ain't strong like that- oh ruh you actually kind of are wtf"
man switched sides faster than it takes for me to get up in the morning 💀

Bro Don seems like a chill ass dad😂

American groups(boy bands)?  NSYNC? O- town, Backstreet Boys, New Edition, New Kids on the Block (NKOTB), Jonas Brothers, The Jackson 5,  98 Degrees, Boys II Men, Hanson, Menudo (P.R.), New Edition, etc etc

The old shaman knew what had happened when he first saw the red panda fly over his head.
In Chinese culture, red is a lucky color but 4 is an unlucky number.
They showed there were stray cats around the temple...that's where the kittens came from.
The red panda represented the release of emotions.  The popular theory is that the size of the panda reflected the amount of repressed emotions, especially anger.
I'm a 70-year-old black man, with a daughter who was a young teen in 2002, and I adore this movie.

the one detail I love about the movie is, if you notice, the pandas almost seem sad to leave, like they want to stay, how much is the panda and how much is the person.

You were right in regards to Ming accidentally hurting her mother and giving her a scar

As someone who grew up in Toronto, this is one of my favorite Disney films. So relatable to was it was like being a teen in the early 2000s. We had NSYNC and the Backstreet Boys but 4TOWN goes hard!

29:08 To be honest and fair, Tyler had it coming. He was going to need AND learn the dire consequences of his actions.

this was actually inspired by the experience of the director and her teenage days, she liked bigbang and 2ne1 (2ND GEN kpop groups) she used to be a big kpop fan girl and knew almost every single girl has gone trough a fan girls phase. This movie IS SO RELATABLE

I love Turning Red. Mei Mei looks so cute as a red panda. Mei Mei's mother is really overprotective with Mei Mei. This movie is so sweet and funny

3:15 The fact that the film was inspired by Jimin (BTS) for one of the members of the group 4town you were right!

1:29 😂😂 both my boys were an ‘accident’ …not planned if you will. But now that they’re here I guess I’ll keep em 😂😂

3:38 Backstreet Boys and NSYNC!

3:30 Yes, there are some American boy bands from the old to the new that are from America, like: The Jackson 5, NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, Boys II Men (R&B group), Backstreet (black r&b group), 98 Degrees, New Edition (R&B group), Silk (R&B group), LFO, Jodeci (R&B group), Jagged Edge (R&B group), B2K (R&B group), BBMak, Linkin Park (rock band), Korn (rock band), Guns N Roses (Rock band), Green Day (rock band), H-Town (R&B group), Blink-182 (pop rock band), Smash Mouth, Nirvana (rock band), Kiss (rock band), Migos (hip-hop group), and 112 (R&B group)  that all I think of. Plus, One Direction is from the UK 🇬🇧, while BTS and Stray Kids are from Korea 🇰🇷 💜
