"toddler with a can opener on its face" that's exactly how my dad describes them. Hence why I know I shouldn't get one.

Thank you for reminding me to not get a cockatoo. Amazing bird, but wrong time

I just did a consultation with Landon. She is the best.

A toddler with a can opener on its face, too funny! I fell in love with Major Mitchell’s Cockatoo when I first set eyes on one. So beautifully painted by God’s art department. Enjoyed the mini class on cockatoo’s, learned something new. Congratulations Landon, Boo is a beauty, and I hope you have many wonderful years ahead. Thanks Jamie🦜💕👍

I thought I knew what I was getting into with the umbrella cockatoo I adopted (he was 21 yo when I adopted him, and had been in at least 4 previous homes), as I had done a ton of research and already had a parrot, but man I was in for an [ongoing] education. The funny videos you see online? Those are the highlight reels, they are not the everyday reality. Cockatoos are truly different from true parrots in so many ways, and the goal posts are always moving with them. And I'm pretty sure I have hearing damage now, they are EXTRA loud.

As a sulpher crested cockatoo owner, I approve this message! Adopt, dont shop!

Side note! Nanday Conures reach 155 decibels! They beat most cockatoos and are definitely louder than Sun conures.

My boy is a 27 year rescue and he is constantly changing, just when you “think” you have things kinda in a good routine, he suddenly starts something new. They are so smarter than you can imagine! So never a dull moment, that’s what makes them so special. Everyday is special with them! They need so much of your time and patience, but worth every minute!
I am the rescued one not Casper!

I'm just happy that they just live free in my neighbourhood..I see them every day without having to own one

Definitely a ton of research on any parrot species, or cockatoos, is the best way to go! When I first got interested in parrots, the last bird I wanted, was the cockatiel. They looked like little clowns! But at the end of the day, i kept coming back to the cockatiel. Am glad I did!

Cockatoos are the great white shark of the bird sharks ❤ and if anyone watched the videos of Dave and Jamie reacting to fans, bird cage setups will understand this reference 😊 I love all birds, but I'm with Jamie when it comes to the bigger cockatoos .

The best cockatoo for me is the cockatiel! They're adorable, they often bond well with people (especially when hand-reared), and they are about as beginner friendly as any cockatoo can get. Don't get me wrong, they're still a big committment, but if the larger cockatoos are too much for you, a cockatiel might not be. If you do decide to adopt a cockatiel, I recommend getting two! I've noticed they seem to be happier with a friend.

Hi Jamie and Dave. Have you heard about the TrueChroma Spot LED? It's a bulb that emits a more complete light spectrum. Enabling birds and reptiles to see better indoors. Light that normal bulbs don't make and windows block.

Thanks for that awesome info ❤

If you'd like to see a wonderfully entertaining cockatoo here on YouTube, look up Barney the West Coast Cockatoo. His owner posts twice daily and that bird is such a character! You can always tell when they're happy and well taken care of.
