Why Is This RC So Ultra Rare?

WTF! Tomy made A 1/10th Racing Buggy in 1991 and it was epic !?! News to me but yes, it's true and these have become vintage RC royalty over the years, demanding big money and thats even if you can get your hands on one. Finally after many years I snag one for the RCKicks collection. Going bankrupt in style!

Good vid. Very interesting buggies those. Another rare one that has reached halo status is the Hirobo Jealousy. A very aptly named car that one. It'd awesome that you did a shout out to Glenn. I'm hoping we get to see more from him.

I remember those being heavily discounted in RC Car Action Ads, those and the Hirobo cars, they were like $79 or $89 bucks.

It's gorgeous, Gavin. Extremely rare, up there with some AYK. I will surely take a ticket for the Dyna Blaster if you Raffall it 😊

Having owned TOMY toys growing up as a kid (those Zoids robot-styled dinosaur toys in particular stick in my mind) it was quite bemusing to see that TOMY logo across the body of a properly serious R/C race buggy! I can only remember seeing one Intruder at our local club, I recall that it went well, which given the similarities with a Yokomo of the period, was perhaps not a surprise. TOMY sold the rights/tooling etc to a company who would become Xpress just as the 190mm Scale Touring class was exploding. Anyone familiar with the M1 Xpress TC chassis will notice the similarities to a TOMY buggy.

I recall seeing these in the RC magazines. A few advertisements for the Tomy buggy.
My guess is that it never really caught on, most folks would have thought of it as a joke. I would imagine not many were produced.
So, those that did survive all these decades are worth more now due to its scarcity.

Tomy developed the intruder as a high end race car,but didn't offer much in the way of factory support for the racers.

There was also Pulsar rally car. If you haven't found it yet. I start a Tomy Group on Facebook some years back (about 10) But I handed it off to others. G Tinto them myself as the Hobby shop I used ot work for was the US importer (along with Yokomo when they bought Associated out). had like 3 builds going and boxes of parts but sold them off to a member in Australia. Fun interesting builds.

Awsome buggy the intruder. I even managed to stick mine in the A-final at the lakland classic a few years back. Even now the plastics are still up to the abuse. The transmission, not so much 😂
