To get Etho interested in level 4, tell him one of the level 4 secrets is the solution to saving Rusty from his prison... he won't do anything but level 4 after that. XD
The Tango vs Etho card amount debate is purely because of their play style. Tango wants to go in and get out. Etho wants to go in and maximize loot each run.
53:14 Gotta love that Joe still has so much interest in the game despite not being among the top runners! He's playing it because he likes it regardless of the competition around it, and comes up with ideas that make it better for players like him without making it any worse for the top dogs.
That being said, I think it would be nice if the game was available for the hermits for a bit after the competition ends. I feel like the pressure of collecting tomes and all that keeps the hermits from doing some more interesting stuff, namely Deepfrost might end up not getting that much use because of that. They would definitely go there more if they had a generous amount of shards and no competition to think about. Not saying the competition is bad, just that the game would probably benefit from having a non-competitive phase as well.
I actually think telling people what card they lose would be a buff, rather than a nerf. Because it allows them to adjust their strat around the card that was lost, whereas atm they don't know what's gone missing so they could be waiting for a lucky break that's never gonna come.
Etho must either have amazing ears, or amazing headphones. He is always able to pinpoint noises in 3D space, whether they're Ravagers, Wardens, or loot dings.
Just as a reminder, those pressure plates on floor 3 do not make wardens listen to them when a warden steps on them because it is considered a "warden caused noise", however wardens DO hear the pressure plate when it clicks back up by resetting, because mojang never fixed it to make that retain the entity that pushed it. That's why your level 3 wardens are so bad at chasing people right now, because every pressure plate stops them in their tracks.
Tango keeps worrying about things like the spiders passage not killing people as often or people being less worried about clank block than before, but I feel like it's good for things in earlier levels to get easier as you progress in the game?? Both because you gain in-game resources and because you gain skill and knowledge
@Tango - your conversation with Etho about deck size vs thinning. The most limited resource a player has is their frost shards. Which means making each run worth the most involves staying in the dungeon picking up as much loot as possible. If you're really min-maxing runs (cough greedy Etho cough) and not just grabbing your artifact and leaving, you're probably staying in the dungeon 'til you're at or near Max clank every time. Taking fewer cards means you get less loot and time per run.
Deck thinning I think is another holdover strategy from Magic/other card games, where you need to get your most optimal cards in order to outplay the opponent. For Decked out the biggest opponent a player has (besides Beast #025) is time.
To your point, if your strategy is "how can I get in, get the artifact, and get out as quickly as possible" then absolutely only play your best cards. There's no sense in running frost focus when running high clank block and treasure cards for keys makes runs faster and safer.
Regarding your LEANER DECK talk with Etho and Cub, getting max return from each shard is also a major reason for utilizing every card to stay as long as possible. With lower win rate now, even 8+ crowns per winning run won't let them run indefinitely.
Pearl did consider buying beast sense in her stream, but as soon as chat told her that it adds one clank, that consideration was over (Hermits do think clank matters). So maybe if you remove the negative and extend the duration a bit, by ringing the bells twice, some Hermits will pick it up afterall.
4:39:04 Tango - "I feel like spiders is way to easy now" Spiders immediately kills Etho.
Spiders is awful, it's not the cave spiders it's the Ravager zoned right after it, no easy retreat no room to loop. If you miss it, you just die. It's a skill issue, but it happens a lot more than you would expect.
This is a nightmare phase from a dev perspective. The shuffler, top players struggling and not pushing for level 4, fewer and fewer Hermits playing. Tango you're handling things really well. I send you a virtual hug, next phase is gonna go better!
3:20:00 Clearly Tango doesn't remember the times where Etho is stuck in a bad spot waiting on ravengers to wander away while he is slowly running out of cards, or waiting for a card that gives him more speed or jump boost etc. :P
The conversation around thinning the deck v. Keeping the full 40 was very interesting to me. It really reflects the difference in play styles. Cub tends to run like a speed runner in and out and get what you can but dont really go out of your way style and Etho very much toes the line of staying to long to get the absolute most out of every run. So I can see why they think the way they do.
