I often tell people that crochet is 3 hobbies in 1... 1) The yarn (shopping for it, collecting it, some people even make it; 2) The tools; and 3) the crochet itself.

My salad spinner is a great tool in my yarn arsenal. When getting ready to block small items....granny squares, cowls, scarves and the like, I soak them and then poop them into the spinner and spin the water out. Works like a champ!

I keep a magnet in my yarn needle tin. I can set the needle down on top of the closed tin in between uses, and the needle doesn’t roll away never to be found again.

I regularly buy hanks, but I have never felt the need to have a yarn winder or a ball winder. Simply because I put the hank around my neck and start winding it up to a classic yarn ball, and it’s a really cheap way to do it since most of us have our heads with us 😂

I use stackable food containers to store supplies and a paper towel holder with a base as a yarn holder/yarn bowl. The paper towel holder changed my life

I purchased extra large mesh lingerie/laundry bags. After my blanket is finished, I place them inside a bag, use the rinse/spin cycle with a little hair conditioner and vinegar. Then dry in the dryer still inside the bags on low until dry. They come out clean, soft and without me having to block them. Also, as a side note, I found for me, that sewing in any ends immediately instead of leaving them all for later is much easier. I don't get overwhelmed by "all those ends!" I have less ends to sew because I work ends in while crocheting, when possible.

I’m a knitter and crocheter and always weigh my yarn before I use it and write the weight in grams on the label. Many times the yarn doesn’t weigh what the label says! I’ve weighed a lot of 96, 97, 98, 99 gram cakes that should have weighed 100 grams and have come up short when making a project. Plus, I like the accuracy!

I created a crochet chatalaine. Folding scissors, a keychain full of stitch markers, a keychain gauge ruler and a keychain needle holder. I keep it with my hooks in a makeup bag and now I can actually keep up with my little tools. So many crochet tools can be on the keychain and can be added to a chatalaine.

I thought I was a weirdo for using a food scale to split a hank of yarn when doing socks. That way I can work on both socks at the same time. Love it!

The neck light is the most amazing thing! (mine is cheap but it does bend and change direction like yours) It is not only for crochet and knit, it is also for reading in the evening in bed, for going to the bathroom at night without turning on big lights or bumping into things, for rummaging in closets, for knitting even during the day when the yarn is black. I keep finding new uses for it, new moments in life where it is super convenient to have a light that walks with you and lights only what you need without the need to turn on any of the big lights.

I was having severe shoulder pain from crocheting, so I got a boppy (breastfeeding) pillow to prop my arms up and the pain stopped!

I think my favorite "tool" is a cast iron "basket" which I bought at a yard sale for $5. I don't know what the basket was originally used for but it keeps my yarn ball in one place while I'm working with it. I don't have to worry about my yarn ball rolling around on the floor.

I have 3 neck lights!!! I actually misplaced one, bought a replacement, got a second one so I had a spare while the other one charges...and then found the first one...Nope, this lady should never have to crochet in the dark... 😂

When I make a long chain I use stitch markers for every 10 or 20 but put them on the bottom of the chain so I know when/if it gets twisted

I've recently started buying chunkier yarns that have shown up in dollar tree like the super bulky red heart sweet home line and i am absolutely reaching for the needle threaders every time i go to weave in the ends as they make it a LOT easier to get the thicker yarns into the tapestry needles without accidentally pulling off the fluff at the end of the yarn

12:24 kitchen scales are really great when you buy yarn from the thrift shop that’s missing the label or is a partial skein. While at this point I can mostly tell what a fiber is by touch, can’t say the same for yards or grams
