I worked at Warren State Hospital for years and have visited many of the other 15! I remember the missing person but I thought we had gotten him back to the hospital . It was a unique place to work and I have to say, I truly liked my really “crazy” patients because they couldn’t help the way they were. I always treated them the way I would want to be treated . I also must say, a lot of the staff were worse than the patients!!!

So my guess is that the overcrowding spun the mad scientist's psychiatrists into full rage ; acting out their maniacal solution to the problem through their repugnant experiments.

Barbaric that is a fact. Back then though barbarism was somewhat the norm... Sadd. The ugliness of the Vietnam War? WW II? Gassing human beings? WW I, "Meat Hacking"... During the Civil War amputation was Standard Operating Procedure. I hope that the world may have become wiser today... There is actually an opportunity to provide for those with challenges that preclude them from living in society in general... Takes horse sense skills... Like, pet the cat nicely and that... Not that. "Funny Farm"... And that is not derogatory at all. It is like the story of Black Beauty... Had kind handlers and not kind... Kind leadership is sometimes not easy to find... A horse will do almost anything for sweet feed... That opportunity to clean up the situations of those who cannot? (Can do!) Opportunity knocks!
