30 for 30, we’re good bro.

This whole video was gold, but everything from 35:24 onward was honestly some of the best college football content that I've ever seen. Seriously, this puts some 30 for 30's to shame with how it gives the perspective and the feeling of the utter hopelessness that had surrounded the program, making the reveal of Bill Snyder's arrival at the very end all the better.

Amazing work, looking forward to part 4!

Barry Switzer put it best about Bill Snyder: "He's not the coach of the year, he's not the coach of the decade, he's the coach of the century!"

This series is such a great love letter to Kansas State and I thoroughly enjoy seeing creators making these kinds of long-form passion projects. I know it's a ton of work but it's definitely worth it, keep the series going!

Thanks for having me! On Wisconsin!

I watched the documentary and really appreciated your closing words on Coach Vince Gibson. Thank you for the respect you showed him and his legacy.

I did want to mention one thing regarding the 1970 Florida State game. I don’t believe Vince scheduled that game out of ego or cockiness, as may have been suggested. From a football standpoint, it made sense. Kansas State had already shown what Vince was building there, including defeating Oklahoma in 1969, and his team was certainly capable of beating Florida State. A win like that would have been significant for the program, and as Kansas State’s head coach, scheduling games his team could win and that could elevate the program was part of his job.

There was also a very important personal connection to Tallahassee that may help explain why he scheduled Florida State in the first place. Vince’s father died in Tallahassee in October 1967, leaving his mother there without him. With the Florida State game scheduled for Thanksgiving week in 1970, it would make perfect sense that Vince saw an opportunity to bring his team to Tallahassee while also being able to return home and see his mother around Thanksgiving.

That became even more meaningful when Vince’s older brother died in Tallahassee in April 1970, only seven months before the game. The game obviously would have been scheduled before his brother’s death, but by the time Thanksgiving arrived, Vince had lost both his father and his older brother in Tallahassee within three years, while his mother was still living there.

So I think there was considerably more behind that game than ego or cockiness. It was a winnable, potentially important game for Kansas State, but Tallahassee was also home and where his mother was spending Thanksgiving after some very difficult losses in the family.

Just wanted to offer that additional context. Again, I really enjoyed the documentary and especially appreciated your closing remarks about Coach Gibson.

As an Ohio State fan, I’ve always looked at K State as my second favorite team for college sports. I really started paying attention to them in the early 2000’s, so learning about their roots has been incredibly interesting. I truly had no clue they were such a doormat for so long until Snyder came along. Truly remarkable.

I started this series a week ago and I was enjoying it and I was wondering when part 3 was coming up. Well done Dalukes!

"sometime this week" AND HE POSTED TODAY??

LUKE YOU LEGEND I LOVE YOU BRO

also are you going to any games this fall? dumb question but it's worth asking 🤑

Growing up and living near and in Pittsburgh, Larry Brown is still spoken of in circles around here with high reverence - and it’s not like western PA has no other legends to speak of. Andre Coleman is another western PA boy who wore the purple of LSU. I really enjoy your content, and this series is (so far) a masterpiece.

Steve Grogan would have been absolutely amazing in a Bill Snyder offense!

Excellent cliffhanger. Can't wait for part 4.

At least during the dark ages of Kstate football, 2 years of Mitch Richmond hooping in the late 80s before playing in the NBA for the Warriors Kings Wizards and Lakers.

Insane refresh pull 🔥

Who knew Lynn Dickey, Larry Brown and Mack Herron, all stars in the NFL in the 70s, all played at K-State

I was born the year that the Wildcats went to the Independence Bowl, and my family moved to Manhattan, KS in 1988, the year before Snyder arrived to turn things around.  My mom worked at a steakhouse and had a friend from work who was married to a starting defensive lineman on the 1988 Wildcat team.  My mom's friend got us tickets to the K-State/Iowa State game, which was the last home game before the Snyder era began.  It was also the first football game I had ever been to.  I had recently turned 6 years old at the time, and had no interest in sports at that age (which was probably just as well considering how depressing the Wildcat football program was at that point).  I did enjoy going to the game, mostly because it was the largest building I had ever been in at that time in my life, and the vast, empty stands above the first couple of rows looked like a great place to run around and play.  I was oblivious to the implications of the stadium being about 3/4 empty, or the fact that the majority of the few people who WERE there were wearing Iowa State colors.  After getting permission to run around the empty stands as long as I didn't bother anyone or go too far from where my mom and her friend were sitting, I had a great time running around the bleachers, only occasionally looking down at the players on the field and blissfully unaware of the fact that the Cats were in the process of losing their 12th game in a row (since the infamous "Toilet Bowl" tie the previous year) and extending their winless streak to 26 games, and that it had been over a third of my then-current lifespan since the most recent Wildcat victory.  While I didn't start following sports until 1994 when I was a couple of months short of 12 years old, even I knew there was something different about the atmosphere in MHK in 1989 as opposed to the year before.  I remember the town going absolutely WILD in the fall of 1989, asking what was going on, and being told that the Wildcats had WON a football game for the first time in 3 years!  The level of elation for that win was comparable to that in Lincoln, Nebraska when the Cornhuskers won national titles in 1994, 1995 and 1997 (and I lived in Lincoln from 1994-2000).  My family moved away from Manhattan in the summer of 1990, but I loved living there so much that I have been a K-State fan ever since.  Ironically, the player my mom's friend was married to, thought Snyder was "crazy" trying to win and resented Snyder's expectation for the players to work hard and develop a winning attitude, so he quit the team and transferred to a smaller school, as he was only playing football to pay for his degree...

12:22 ...i have no words

Amazing video again, can’t wait for Part 4!

Great Shoutout to Larry Brown. As Commanders fan myself. I was amazed watching old school highlights of him in his prime and I hope someday he’ll get in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

these videos are so cool
