Man City Just Sent The Premier League A Message

In their first game since an independent commission found them guilty of breaking the Premier League's financial rules (a verdict they are appealing), Manchester City went to Anfield without Foden, without Rodri and without Pep Guardiola — and won 3-0.
For an hour there was nothing in it. Then Enzo Maresca sent on Jérémy Doku: a red card, two goals and the game in twelve minutes. The last time the Premier League came for City, they won the Treble — and Maresca was on that coaching staff.
0:00 First game since the verdict
0:37 City lose the man who built them
1:27 City spent, City won
1:58 The verdict
2:29 2023: charged, then the Treble
3:44 Anfield
4:37 The twelve minutes
5:35 Patient, then ruthless
6:23 Doku, Haaland, Semenyo
6:47 The honest part
7:43 The question
Is the verdict making City stronger, or is the bill still coming? Tell me in the comments.

PSG and Chelsea have done the same thing. Even the established elite European teams have bent rules to build their global brands - only that their systems never got hacked and their data made public. The scandals in France and Italy were of a different nature - match-fixing is not the same as breach of financial rules where people discuss not only information but also legal interpretation of various rules and regulations. All other elite teams are simply not in the same seat as City because their data and communications were not exposed for public scrutiny.
If you talk about the magnitude of financial investments, money by itself does not guarantee success. Man United have spent big on a net spend basis since Sir Alex left the team, yet all their financial outlay has not brought success. For many years PSG were chasing European success by signing super stars and paying astronomical wages, yet the Champions League eluded them - their results changed when they got rid of the stars, got an elite coach in Luis Enrique and changed their recruiting and football philosophy - they finally became a repeat Champions League winners. So give credit to Pep on the teams he built and the football City played - for most seasons, City did not buy global super stars, but went for players that fit their system - elite coaching and a coherent football philosophy in additional to world class infrastructure transformed these players into stars.
