Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories - 17 Years Later

Got to give credit to Sony when it came to advertising the PSP. The commercials were weird and made no sense, but they’ve been living rent free in my brain for like 15 years. Ever since I’ve started this series on Grand Theft Auto, I’ve been dying to go back and replay Liberty City Stories. While I was technically playing both teams during the DS and PSP handheld wars back in the day, ultimately the PSP ended up being my favorite of the two consoles.

It just had this sleeker look to it, more features like watching movies on it, but more importantly the games just felt bigger. Like Sony wasn’t lying about their goal of bringing the home console experience on the go. It had some of the best games back in the day like God of War, Chains of Olympus, Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, Final Fantasy 7 Crisis Core, and of course Grand Theft Auto Liberty City Stories.

Frank Vincent is such a legend for lending his voice to Salvatore Leone in all the games he appears in.

This was my first own GTA. I played it daily back then. I absolutely love it, it is a classic for me.

33:47 He was a cannibal in GTA III. In a mission with Ray Machowsky t's mentioned he's been seen at a morgue party and he makes you destroy the evidence, wich leads to unlocking him as a mission giver.

I had an ex who’s sister looked exactly like maria, but had katarina’s exact personality, she was completely nuts and out of control. I hated her so much 😑

PSP emulation has always blown my mind in quality when compared to other 3D emulated systems.

It's funny that the most psychotic protagonist is in the most underrated game

33:53 That type of erratic behavior and such a stark difference in character could imply that he's on drugs in LCS

Personally, my favourite GTA. I loved that it was based on mafia's.

Great video. I agree that Liberty City Stories is a very underrated game. For something so simple, it had a lot of features and an overall atmosphere that were different than GTA3. I also loved the architectural and geographical changes to the map - like the projects in Portland still being under construction, or the Italian district on Staunton Island.

Salvatore dying after using the "pedestrians riot" cheat is probably not a deliberate anti-cheat but a consequence of the cheat's effect: everyone around Salvatore is hostile and will attack him.

I played the hell out this game back in high school. While the longetivity of the DS was unprecedented, the PSP just had so much more narrative driven games. And a lot of them were absolutely fantastic. This game included…

I loved this game. GTA III is my favorite 3D universe GTA game. Like you, I jumped at the chance to play a new game set in Liberty City and was seriously surprised.
