_________________________________________________________________ An opinion piece published Tuesday in Libération has reignited a perennial debate: “Undocumented Workers: A Call for Regularization.” This cross-party piece denounces our “collective hypocrisy” on the issue of immigration.

This initiative comes just weeks before the upcoming immigration law, which plans to introduce a “skills shortage” residence permit, and is causing division on both the left and the right. Some fear a pull factor, a threat to French identity… Others denounce a utilitarian and immoral view of immigration.

So how do we move beyond the constant politicization of the immigration issue? Is immigration a risk, an opportunity, or even a necessity for the French economy? Is a pragmatic and humanistic approach possible? We'll be discussing this with:

📌 Marie-Pierre DE LA GONTRIE, Socialist Party Senator for Paris, Vice-President of the Committee on Constitutional Laws, Legislation, Universal Suffrage, Rules of Procedure and General Administration, co-signatory of the op-ed "We demand urgent, humane and concrete measures for the regularization of undocumented workers" in Libération (September 11, 2023)
📌 Constance RIVIÈRE, Director General of the Palais de la Porte Dorée, author of "La vie des ombres" (The Life of Shadows) published by Stock (September 6, 2023)
📌 Olivier BABEAU, Essayist, President of the Sapiens Institute, Professor of Management Science at the University of Bordeaux
📌 Sami BIASONI, PhD in Philosophy from the École Normale Supérieure, Lecturer at ESSEC Business School, author of "Le statistiquement correct" (The Statistically Correct) published by Éditions du Cerf (September 21, 2023)
📌 François HÉRAN, Demographer, sociologist, professor at the Collège de France, holder of the "Migrations and Societies" chair, author of "Immigration: The Great Denial" published by Seuil (March 3, 2023)
