I've dedicated my entire life to being a novice.

The best way to keep improving (there's always room for improvement) is to never think you're an advanced player

I’m good enough to amuse myself

I’ve been playing professionally for well over 30 years, done world tours and loads of session work, and let me tell you with 100% confidence I am the very picture of intermediateness

I really like this channel. It's so different from any other guitar channel. It's funny. Interesting. Relatable. You're kind of obnoxious but likeable at the same time. I think you're going to do really well.

@HawkOfGP 1 year ago

A lot of the best songwriters in the world are intermediate players.

@DoubleOh42 1 year ago

Its so crazy to see the dichotomy between classical and rock guys and how they think, but the cyclical agreement that once you get passed scales and chords and songs and solos etc to the point where rhythm becomes immediately important AGAIN* is a big milestone.

Modes, where we're going we don't need modes.

Regarding Jimi Hendrix and discussions about being the best etc... He was called that in a tv interview once and he immediately said he did not consider himself as such. In another interview, he stated that not only were some guitarists imitating his play, but that they were also imitating mistakes that he was making. The man at least had some intermediate levels of humility.

I really liked when he said "Hendrix chord" with no further explanation

More advanced you are more humble you get... that is the fruit of knowledge.. i think😊

I like what you have been doing. It makes my world at least a lit bit better. We seem to focus in similar ways and improve iteratively. These are busy lives we live. Please continue to improve one step at a time, as each new point of focus becomes obvious. It's the way I work and it keeps me sane. The game we play spans our entire life. It is almost humorous how important it becomes to engineer one's life context so that creative productivity is self-perpetuating. Being patient while improving small aspects of production leads to a dramatic increase in quality over time. I'm glad that you do things in new ways from time to time. That's a great sign. Thanks Cameron!

“probably not an advanced guitarist” i’d take that as a compliment

@henatatorplays 1 year ago

I hope to be "advanced" someday, and I think you've inspired me to really dive into those scales and drills for the sheer joy of them. I'm happy that this kind of practice can coexist with my ability to just play something fun when I feel like it and bang out a folk tune in an afternoon.

that “dead” tip literally changed my life

My favorite part about the channel is how much of a reality check it is for me with how much i have to learn

The 10 000 hour rule is an annoyingly persistent myth. The truth is that you can spend an eternity practicing something the wrong way and never master it. What you need to do is practice in a deliberate and structured way, actively pushing your limits rather than just repeating what you already know, which might sound obvious, but a lot of people never ever master anything because they get too comfortable at the "intermediate" level and just stay there indefinitely because they keep doing what they already know.
