Are solid wood worktops really the best choice for a campervan kitchen? In this episode of the aBuckLife van build, we're installing a *compact laminate worktop* instead of traditional solid wood and finding out whether it's a better choice for a DIY campervan conversion.
Solid wood worktops look fantastic, but how do they cope with the demands of van life? From water around the sink to everyday spills, stains, scratches and the movement of a vehicle on the road, choosing the right worktop is an important decision when building your own campervan.
In this video, we're fitting our new compact laminate kitchen worktop into the Ford Transit campervan build. We'll look at the installation, the finish, and why compact laminate could be a great alternative to solid wood for a modern campervan kitchen.

Instead of double tape, which is trully annoying to remove, toy can try masking tape :
- place masking tape pieces on both parts to temporarily join so that those pieces matches each others
- put CA glue on masking tape pieces of 1 part
- and optionnally, spray CA glue accelerator on masking tape of the other part
- place the parts on one another carrefully : masking tape pieces to masking tape pieces
- after CA glue fully sealed, do your job on the parts : let's say router job
- then separate the 2 parts easily (masking tape isn't that strong)
- it will also remove in seconds with no trace at all on the finished part
Magic !
If you use a fibre cement blade and over cut it by 4mm you hen use a router to flush cut it it will leave the cuts really nice and polished make sure you finish all your cut edges with a touch of linseed oil. Great work mate
Also for your scribes just use a compass tool. And undercut it on a bevel for those curved corner cuts

Think choice of placement is by far the best.
Been looking at this material as a worktop option, so great to see how well your installation went. How long were the self tappers for the sink? One of my reservations about compact laminate was getting fixings into something only 12mm thick and how well they would hold.
For the double sided tape gunk you need to buy some proper sticky stuff remover gel, works a treat.
