I'm surprised I never uploaded this before. I was on tour at the time (having a pretty bad time of it too) and recorded this whilst staying at digs in Derbyshire. It was the 30th anniversary of the Aberfan disaster and this is, I think, as good a documentary on how it shattered a town and destroyed a generation as I think you'll find.

Thank you for uploading this lost documentary. One of, if not the best I've seen. The stories of the survivors and family members hits home really hard with the detail and rawness of the disater.

So sad 💔 I was 5 years old when this happened. I lived in England then, but I still remember this happening. Years later, I came to South Wales to live. I have been to the cemetery 3 times, each time, heartbreaking. To think these children never had a chance to live, to grow up,to experience life. God bless and Rest in peace to all those children and adults who died. 💔 Thank you for sharing.

In June 1966 I started primary school here in Auckland, New Zealand. When the Aberfan disaster happened there was a call for primary schools in NZ to donate money for the family's in Aberfan. I remember mun and dad giving me 50 pence for my donation. 50p was a lot of money back then, one pint of milk was 4p and a meat pie was 5p.
I've never forgotten about the Aberfan disaster to this day.

The comments from the survivors about being worried about their new felt pens and losing their shoe broke me, hammers home the age of those that died.

I was living in Birmingham (UK) teaching children 7-8 years old! The headmaster was a Welsh-speaking Welshman (Many Welsh people don't SPEAK Welsh, largely depending on which part of Wales they come from! The children I taught were the same age as some of the children who were killed! I hated that thought!

I filmed this exactly 50 years to the day and at 9.15 from the location of tip seven . I was in school just a mile over the hill on that morning , doing exactly the same thing as those children .
