As an oboist... Was waiting for this

jus thx ... I paid my oboe 5 thousand euro but It came with the same case ...

Bass clarinet next please. <3 (I also play contrabass clarinet and when I saw the selmer contrabass part I lit up!!!!)

A friend of mine plays the oboe. We went to musical Gymnasium together (which is 8 years of music theory lessons twice a week, orchestra and instrumental lessons once a week, written music theory exams every few weeks, two big ones a year, singing exams twice a year and instrumental exams four times a year).
I got the pleasure of accompanying her once and it was beautiful.

I only realised this much later: the oboe is freaking hard! Not a lot of people even try it, so finding someone who can actually teach you, is nearly impossible and the instruments themselves are extremely expensive. (I believe, that yes the instrument is extremely complicated to build, because it has so many keys even compared to other wind instruments with keys, but because so few play it, there is no market to make it cheaper)

And the big surprise was: I always believed, the oboe was simple, because my friend played it so well! Never a wrong note, nothing squeaked even when she got completely new music.

So what I want to say with this: if someone knows their craft really well, you can’t even tell how difficult it is and a lot of professional musicians have that “problem” where others simply don’t understand, how much time and effort it took, to get to that point.

The goat uploaded ❤

9:20 even though I don't play the oboe my heart skipped a beat when he just let it go like that

You should try doing a video on the cheapest French Horn you can find

As an oboist you really did great with 2 hours ! And definitely did not make it easy for yourselves by picking peter and the wolf... Low register, 4 flats, and pinkies aaaaall over the place, including some veeeery annoying pinky glides (does it make sense ??). So I can only say well done !

I'm a woodwind doubler, and yes oboe is tricky. But I don't think it's as hard as so many people make it out to be. Making reeds on the other hand ...

"I'm introverted by nature.... Suck it"

Iconic!

This is one of those underrated YouTube Peak videos.

Please do the cheapest French horn you can find next😭🙏🙏🙏

HE DID IT!!

I’m incredibly impressed that this oboe has a third register key. That’s something thats only common on professional model instruments

Watching this while staring at my 13k oboe…(making reeds)

Quick reed-player tip from a bassoon/oboe perspective:

On oboe and bassoon, you don’t really start the note with your embouchure the way you might on sax, clarinet, or flute. The tongue actually rests on the reed while your air pressure is already built up before the note begins, and then you release the tongue to let the air rush through and vibrate the reed.

Right now, the tonguing sounds a little squeaky because the reed has nothing “ready to go” when you attack the note.

A good way to think about it: your air should be like water pressure sitting in your house pipes — it’s constantly there and ready, but nothing happens until you turn the faucet on. In this case, pulling your tongue off the reed is turning the faucet on.

Try getting used to stopping the sound with your tongue instead of starting it with your embouchure, while keeping constant air pressure behind the reed. If the reed doesn’t vibrate immediately from that built-up pressure, notes can start inconsistently or cut out.

Your embouchure controls tone color and dynamics, but on double reeds, it really isn’t what initiates the note.

Buying the cheapest oboe you could find raises the difficulty level.

YAYYYYYYYYY I HOPE SHE MAKES DA NEXT VIDEO

Well, that was painful. As someone that worked a few years as an oboe teacher, I'd say you would get a "good job" from me for a first try.
Not that I think anyone of you are contemplating a career as an oboist, a few tips to get you sounding a lot better:
Push the reed all the way in, always. You can tune by pulling the reed out a bit (lower the tune), but best not to. This is the reason orchestras tune from the oboe (it can't be tuned...)
Go buy a Légér composite reed. They sound pretty good and does not need soaking and lasts a lot longer. Yes, they are very expensive and harder to play, but then you know the reed is capable of sounding good. Most cheap factory made reeds sounds awful even if the world's best oboist plays on them.
Oboes does not need a lot of air, it just needs a lot of pressure, and I mean a lot. This is the difficult part: moderating high pressure air. You need to push hard, but not harder than the reed can take, and you need to keep the reed in check with your lips, but not by putting too much pressure on it. Sounds easy, right? Good luck ;)

Actually looks like a pretty decent oboe. Left hand f, low Bb, resonance keys. Even the bananna key. If it plays will is another story tho...
