My brother and I were in the audience for this show's taping at the Disney MGM Studios... I always remembered the moment when Ebert referred to the song from Home Alone as "that awful dirge"... and the entire audience turned on him (25:45 - 26:45) with groans and boos! Being big John Williams fans, my brother and I were booing right along with everyone else! And the feedback from the crowd was MUCH MORE than just the one woman that they showed on the broadcast... It was obviously cut down for time, but MANY people rebutted the comments from S&E about the song... Obviously, my brother and I weren't the ONLY John Williams fans in the audience!... We just watched this video together, and it brought back all of those amusing memories... It was fun seeing S&E live... They were quite an act!
What a time, where people would attend a show or watch a show on television with two critics talking about their picks for the Oscar’s. jealous of all the people who lived through those better times.
I miss these two so much and agree with Roger about Ghost (a good film but not worthy of a best picture nomination). I also think Glenn Close and Ron Silver deserved nominations for Reversal of Fortune as well as the film itself.
They actually toned down the real guy that Pesci is playing. In real life he was built like an NFL linebacker and not just a psychopath but and absolute inhuman monster.
Dances with Wolves, Dick Tracy, Ghost, Misery, Goodfellas, Total Recall and Reversal of Fortune were all took home an Academy Award in those categories while Havana, Days of Thunder, Postcards from the Edge, Home Alone, Young Guns 2, Awakenings, The Field, Wild at Heart, Mr. & Mrs. Bridge and The Godfather Part 3 were also Oscar nominated in those categories, but lost. Everybody did their very best, that's all.
I really miss this show. Always looked forward to it. Also, Ebert is wrong. The Home Alone song was spot on. Really pulled at my heart during the movie. Perfectly timed.
