Alleigha Botner was one of the prosecution’s central witnesses against Caleb Flynn, and the jury heard her read messages that put her own words about Ashley Flynn under the same spotlight as his. On July 10, 2025, Botner acknowledged writing a message about wanting Ashley dead. Caleb’s reply was, “that makes two of us.” Botner testified that she did not mean what she wrote.
This combined episode puts those trial messages next to two different kinds of expert analysis. Retired FBI special agent Jennifer Coffindaffer joins Robin Dreeke to examine what Botner’s side of the 100,000-plus-message relationship reveals about mutual escalation, pressure, secrecy, and the line between ugly talk and evidence of intent. Psychotherapist Shavaun Scott then steps further back and looks at how the relationship began: Botner was a young church intern when she met Flynn, while he was an older married worship-team volunteer inside the same religious community.
Scott focuses on the power imbalance and what she describes as a halo effect around trusted church figures. Botner testified that Flynn portrayed Ashley as more of a roommate, hid their relationship, exchanged AI-generated love songs with her, and got a matching Harry Potter tattoo he concealed from his wife. The September 2 messages about whether Ashley still had photos of their texts add another layer: Flynn proposed taking Ashley’s phone while she slept, and Botner replied, “be careful,” asked what his excuse would be, and then wrote, “Perfect.”
Flynn was convicted on September 29, 2026, of aggravated murder and eight other charges in Ashley’s killing. His defense argued that an intruder committed the crime and that infidelity and vicious messages did not prove murder. Sentencing is scheduled for October 5. Coffindaffer and Scott approach the same relationship from different directions: what the language shows, and how the relationship may have been built in the first place.

I’m stuck between her knowing pushing Caleb to violence or conversation they had in person about actual taking Ashley’s life together.
Caleb appeared to want everyone to believe (based on the evidence) that the intruder managed to get the side door in the garage open. For some strange reason, the intruder then took time and made noise "breaking in" to the door that was already open using Caleb's tools and leaving wood chips on the floor of the garage.
Caleb wanted everyone to assume that the intruderknew exactly where to look in Caleb's car for his gun.Caleb also wants people to believe that, despite having two small children in the house, he regularly kept a loaded gun in the centre console of an unlocked car in the garage.
Caleb wants the world to believe that this intruder broke into a house that was occupied using tools that were in the garage and required an unlocked door - and thus did not warrant breaking in, which would just increase the possibility of being caught - went straight to the armed gun in the unlocked car, then went straight to the bedroom of a sleeping Ashley Flynn where they shot her in her sleep. The intruder then did not enter any other room, did not try to steal anything other than a pair of earbuds, just retraced his steps and left out of the same door despite the freezer.
Caleb also wants the world to believe that he could tell how many times his wife had been shot as she lay in the bed with blood in her hair, despite the fact the medical examiner needed to shave Ashley's hair before he could tell how many times she had been shot.oh and apparently his children slept through it all so the bangs could not have been that loud - Caleb was sleeping with the children because he had a cough that was disturbing Ashley, a cough that had all but gone by the time he phoned 911.
None of it adds up, not does it indicate anybody with any knowledge of criminal cases had any influence over Caleb's words or actions. As a malignantly narcissistic psychopath he probably thought he was acting up a storm - and probably felt that way every time he turned the waterworks on for the cameras/jurors/his defence team/the judge. In reality I think he sealed his guilty verdict day one with the 911 call followed by the interaction with police at his home. If it was not that bad, it was worse.
