six months later and im still watching every reaction on Sinners

A lot of our grandparents used to tell us "don't let anybody give you any wooden nickels." My grandmother was a sharecropper in Arkansas as a kid, they used to pay them in tokens or other fake money so they didn't have cash to spend elsewhere or ever leave.

The vampire trope is used brilliantly here as a metaphor for colonization and the theft of cultures. Just coincidentally, when I first saw Sinners I was also reading about the Indian schools in Canada and the U.S., where native children were punished for using their own language or celebrating tribal traditions. I like that the film reminds us that Remmick’s people - the pre-Christian Irish that history would call pagans - were also robbed of their history and traditions and were converted to Christianity as a means of keeping them in line. It’s a chain: colonizers create refugees who then colonize others.

"Sammie" is an artist and THIS is his FIRST acting role. Apparently, he learned how to play guitar during this movie. Great reaction from both of you!

I envy people seeing this movie for the first time. It’s a masterpiece with layers.

The actor that plays Sammy his name is Miles Caton. He is  a music prodigy that learned to play the blues guitar two months before  filming his very first role in sinners. His family are well-known gospel singers.  Miles was also a backup singer for the artist known as H.E.R.. She recommended him for the role....

Glad y’all caught on to how it tied back into Annie speaking in the beginning. Remmick was the Fili, Sammie was the Griot, and the Choctaw had Firekeepers, but Delta Slim was also a Griot of the older generation. Remmick was also genuinely wanting the community established by our Club Juke residents

I remember leaving the theater thinking “That still would’ve been good WITHOUT the vampire aspect” but the vampire aspect became some of my favorite parts of the movie too! Y’all should check out some of director Ryan Coogler’s other movies: Black Panther, Creed, and Fruitvale Station (based on a true story)
He always puts interesting twists in his movies

Prohibition was from 1920 to 1933, so this is getting to the end of it

Also the vampires’ eyes glow accordingly.
Remmick is the oldest/original with red. Recently turned/fully under Remmick’s control = yellow glow. Fully turned/Lacking humanity = white glow. Every other color suggests a remaining humanity/connection and loyalty to someone other than Remmick. Example: Mary’s eyes (initially yellow) turned green once she reunited with Stack, her human lover; while Stack’s eyes were blue instantly indicating his strong connection to his twin., also making him less controlled than the others.. In the end with Smoke and Remmick gone, Stack and Mary’s eyes are now the same sapphire blue due to the connection between them

I'm a old western type of guy, I just love the genre. This soundtrack fits the genre. I can't get enough of it.

The actual place is Clarksdale, MS. I grew up there. The MS Delta is the birthplace of the blues.

The  scene with the mash-up of genres past & future was Spectacular. What many don't realize is that everyone within Sammy's orbit, as he was singing, had their Ancestors represented - which was beyOnd incredible.

So many people love this movie because it’s sooooo much more than a “vampire movie”. It deals with race, segregation, family, loyalty, music, etc. I’m glad that y’all recognized that and enjoyed it.

The crossroads are in Mississippi.  You are thinking of the story of Robert Johnson.  Sammy is made to look like him.

Very fitting that my sister and I are going as Smoke and Stack this Halloween

Another theme this movie focuses on is Making your OWN decisions in LIFE
Sammie was being forced every which way by people in his life (Father - Condemning him harshly for playing music he loved; Smoke - Telling him he should only make a CERTAIN type of music; Stack - Capitalist who only was thinking about the money Sammie could make them 🥴🤣) BUT he still ultimately made his own decision even after that night, to go to Chicago and become successful doing what he loved to do

Many of our grandparents/great grandparents were born into sharecropping and are still alive today. My great grandma turn 90 this year and this movie was set 3 years before she was born, which mean her mom was born a slave. This setting was only a couple generations ago. the passage of Time is crazy

Whoever edited this is a sharp editor! Bravo!!!

That was thee Legendary Blues Icon Buddy Guy as Sammy in the mid-credits.... so you know. ;)
