Which Royal would you like to bring back from the dead?

The actress who plays Wallis Simpson is the great Geraldine Chaplin, daughter of Charlie Chaplin and Oona O'Neill. Her daughter is Oona Chaplin, who played Talisa in "Game of Thrones".
She also sent Oona to Gordonstoun when it became coed.

Wallis’s second last visit to Windsor Castle, her last some 15 or so years later when she was buried beside “her David”, the one concession Elizabeth granted them both.

"No excuse for going in the wrong direction." And yet, he did.

Anybody felt the same vibe that Wallis gave a stare to Camilla to signal that she's the new her? 3:21

The Queen Mother was actually very kind to Wallis at the funeral. She was already beginning to suffer from dementia and was very confused. The QM steered her gently in the right direction and told her she understood how she felt.

They really ate with that turnaround to look at Charles!

That shot of the family staring at Charles is such an incredible display of acting prowess. They each stare at him in a different way; the Lord Snowden gives him a look of concerned warning, the Queen Mother with repressed resentment, Margaret with exhausted contempt, Philip with rigid discipline, Anne with deep concern, Lord Mountbatten with a strict coldness, and Elizabeth, standing farthest from him, with a low, sombre stare that seems to be saying “please do not make this harder than it needs to be, for your sake”. It’s an amazing way to setup the entirety of Charles’ marriage to Diana long before she’s introduced. But what really makes this scene work so well is the fact that the family only see him, share concern for him, interact with him. None of them look at, address, or even acknowledge Camilla’s presence. The only person who looks at her, the only one who even acknowledges that she exists, is Wallis; poised right underneath the rear view mirror showing only Camilla’s eyes, staring right back at her. Such an incredible scene that sets up that solidifies Camilla’s place; no matter how legitimate their relationship is, no matter how hard Camilla tries to appeal to the family, share their traditions, and engage in their practices, she will always be an outsider. She will always be isolated. And she will never be acknowledged on her own. And, for all intents and purposes, that is exactly how it plays out. In pretty much every single scene beyond this point, Camilla is only ever referenced in passing; her relationship to Charles takes precedence over her own personhood.

Charles: They mean well. Wallis: No, they don't.

Ouch.

It was likely that Queen Elizabeth would have been queen anyway even if her uncle had not abdicated. He and Wallis were already in their 40s and unlikely to have kids. That would have meant her father would have succeeded him...and then her. Or maybe even directly since her father died young.

I see Tywin Lannister found his way into Her Majesty's inner circle.

The actress who played Wallis deserved an award!!!!

"They mean well."
"No, they don't...." 🥶

The score and sound design in Seasons 3&4 were especially potent.

The pocket watch/compass is beautiful.

You can tell the Queen and especially the Queen Mother eyeing Wallis with great suspicion when she is talking with Prince Charles.

Charles "Someone died. Let me make it about myself"

You have to wonder what could've happened had King Edward VIII not abdicated the throne--a king who was sympathetic to Hitler's assault on Europe. He was ruined by an affair, but relatively unscathed as a traitorous man who would likely have sold out the British Empire to fascism.

When announcing Uncle Davey's titles, he forgot 'traitor'.

Awesome cinematography, that last long shot of the Duchess walking out and away.  We all knew what that signified.
