I’ll help you master the gentleman’s cigar ritual: https://stantonhankins.com/

When I light a cigar, I know the first minute says more than most men realize. Drawing on three decades behind a cigar counter in Louisville, Kentucky, I break down the ten things a gentleman never does—from using the wrong lighter and scorching the foot to rushing the burn or forgetting the man beside him.

I’ll show you how to choose the right flame, puff slowly, handle an uneven burn, respect the timing of a meal, return a borrowed lighter, offer a proper light, and give another man the first flame. These small details protect the cigar—and reveal your manners.

0:00 What Your First Minute Reveals

6:37 Do Not Chase Uneven Burns
9:34 Wait Until Dinner Ends

I remember reading an Ian Fleming 007 book. Bond was enjoying a late night early morning breakfast.
The man walked up and sat down with James asking him if Bond minded if he smoked.
James Bond responded “Not if you don’t mind me eating!”😮

#4 ~ Absolutely it matters! Especially at a table shared with folks you don't know THAT well, (daughter's new boyfriend) or with those you know usually don't mind if you do. Still, even with such individuals who enjoy a fine cigar, they might absolutely mind if someone else's cigar interferes with their enjoyment of a great meal.

#3 ~ With respect, I can honestly say that this is something I have NEVER done during my 51 years of existence on this planet. I despise borrowing anything from anyone! Just part of my personality. With the exception of a cheap ballpoint pen at a doctor's office to fill out forms on a very first visit there, I borrow nothing!! Pen gets returned when the forms are completed. Before walking in, I check to make sure I have all of my cigar smoking tools on me. I check if my lighter is working. But okay, I might be having an off-day. I might need to borrow a lighter.... In which case, the advice in this video is spot-on!

Especially for a cigar, I'll hand my lighter over long before I hold a lit lighter for you to lean into. That behavior is maybe for women lighting a cigarette. Even then it's probably best for women that you know or in a more traditional crowd. Also, it's not embarrassing to ask for a lighter back, just nicely ask for your lighter back, don't be accusatory. If it's a problem then you're smoking with the wrong people.
