That wrecked me. I had to pause a minute and almost sob. This book is really something different.

I find it interesting that Ashley and Bailey both have very unisex names. It highlights the parallel of both their struggles with gender identity.

Aw, I'm a wee bit disappointed you didn't have a longer section at the end talking about the themes and events of the book once we'd had everything revealed to us.

It would have been nice to have some recap and recontextualization after we really knew ((SPOILERS)) who Jinx really was and the true order of events, and how the different stories we were told affected each other. Still though, it was a great video and I look forward to the next one as always

32:20 dude thats called sexual nonconcordance!! it can happen to people with ocd often, it's like when you associate something with sex even if you're not into it, you can feel arousal (sometimes falsely) because your brain has made the connection to sex. idk if that's relevant to this story, but sometimes someone might assume they have a taboo fetish when they just had a nonconcordant reaction.

edit: fucking hell, the tandy story and ashley's descent into killing are some of the few things to genuinely upset me about these stories. love your retellings btw, sorry about the comment spam.

Haven't even started and I realized that while you cover art that covers really sensitive topics to me, you always cover them with respect and honestly I think your taste in art is fantastic. I'm like 45 minutes in rn and the idea of burying a terrified traumatized old woman alive horrified me more than the cannibalism thing ironically; idk why I think of the happy tree friends episode but I thought about that visually. Being buried alive is jacked up and the fact the MC really justified that as "saving" really adds to how scary this really is.

He really did become a monster, he could have easily just finished the ritual and stopped but instead he turned his grief into justification to do what was done to him yk? That's the scariest part to me personally. I could not imagine the slow suffocation and horror you'd face buried in the earth, the perceptional madness: how long is 30 minutes in this pitch black void when you aren't keeping track? Suffocating and going insane. That's haunting.

Anyways I'm scared cuz again, haven't fully finished it yet haha nooo-

To me this story is about being closeted trans. From the part literally about "being in the closet, dont make me say it",  the names of Ashley and Bailey being quite genderneutral, to turning the inside (your true identity) to the outside (your gender expression). It all makes sense to me that this story is reffering to the horrors of being lgbt and being terrified of that part of yourself.

Is everyone just going to ignore how predatory Ashley was towards all his relationships and specifically the projection onto his son? I mean it's pretty clear he should have never been a parent.

This is thematically almost as dark as A Serbian Film, only didn’t seem to revel in the vile aspects of the story. This one will stay with me awhile, I think. Good work again

At the end i found myself wondering IF Jinx actually killed Bailey. Did he goad Ashley because he wanted to simply die? Ashley told him about Bailey minutes before Jinx says what he says. So he could have easily weaponized that information to try and ensure his death. But Jinx also is the kind of person who would do something like that i personally think.

As a victim of childhood SA, I actually think this book handles it very well. I was shocked and appalled from the what I heard, but like you said, not in a ‘shocking to be shocking’ kind of way. Just simply because it’s a horrible act.
Another thing, I think the mentions of all of the honestly foul ‘kinks’ mentioned in this book foreshadowed what the climax would be. I was anticipating Bailey to have gone through something like that with each passing mention of despicable sexual acts.
I’m definitely going to be picking this book up for myself, because I’m genuinely awe struck by this review. You killed it like always.

Adding "The Place Where It Rained" from deltarune as the book comes to an end was such a punch to the stomach and a stab to the back, I deadass had to not cry because im in the middle of school. I hate yet love you (platonic)
