Dating back to the late 19th-century expansion of the Jamaica railway system, this route once carried the island's rich agricultural harvests through the rugged mountain terrain. While tracking down what's left of the tracks and pillars, we had the incredible fortune of meeting Mr. Berger, a local resident whose family has lived right by the bridge for generations.
He shares amazing firsthand stories passed down from his father about what life was like when the trains were running. Afterward, he invited us into his yard, gifted us fresh organic avocados and Jamaican ackee, and shared even more deep-rooted local history.
