Him playing better after coming out makes a ton of sense. The amount of energy and effort you spend to keep up appearances, once you stop doing that, you have so much more energy to just do so many other things

Btw, if you felt like you weren't making a difference, you are. I am a gay immigrant in the US, originally from India. I just came out recently, and I have been heavily relying on substantial channels like this to educate my self more. You are amazing!

This uber masculine man allowing himself to be vulnerable and open. How wonderful!

When I was in my 20s (I’m now 61!) I was out and in a relationship, but very guarded at work. I think everyone knew, but it wasn’t talked about. Then a young guy joined our work team. He was a bit younger, and a keen amateur rugby player .. almost semi-pro. He was good looking, and fit (obviously). I felt nervous around him, afraid to give my admiration of him away, but he was amazingly unfazed by my being gay. The least homophobic person I ever met. He was always joshing with me, introduced me to his wife. invited me to his house for meals, took me to the gym (I was never a gym bunny). Just a really comfortable guy.

OMG Who would have thought that the rugby player would give the deepest, most stimulating interview of all?

Keegan Hirst is such a handsome man. He has it together. He isn't afraid of his inner self. He must be a great father and great partner in life.

As a gay man who was bullied relentlessly in in school, mainly by the rugby boys, I have always been very aware of my personal bias against the sport and players of the sport. There is a type of resentment that I have subconsciously fostered over the years and for which I have felt very guilty (because the logical part of my mind always saw it as hypocritical and unfair), but I am extremely grateful for stumbling across this episode today.

I found this honest conversation so helpful in helping to address some of the conflicts I've been facing.

This is a very healthy and helpful video to help me make sense of masculinity and how masculinity is mediated by sexuality. I appreciate this, and I thank both of you for producing and partaking in the conversation and putting it into the world for others to gain from your experiences and your honest exploration of these topics.

As an older gay man, seeing younger men be so open and frank in sharing their thoughts and feelings about being gay is quite insightful, and comforting. Thank you both for your courage.

What a charming man. Love the way he carries himself and the way he communicates and his Northern accent (swoon).

I can FEEL Jon's disappointment that he's not Keegan's type. The 'easy' t shirt cracks me up tho

It's so refreshing to see two men talk about a lot of these issues that are sooooo commonly struggles for guys growing up in unaccepting environments. It's great to see that it's possible to talk through all of these real issues that guys struggle with around relationships and sex in a way that's not sensationalized. Great discussion, guys.

As a gay man I have never been able to connect with straight men to make friends, there was always this wall between us. I always thought it was sad.

@raydean888 6 months ago

There's something strange about trying to hook up with a real friend. You have to change your mind's perception of that person. You already love them as a friend but suddenly it becomes something else and gets scary.

Great interview! Keegan's an unexpected marvel, articulate, thoughtful, but full of wit. He's a real inspiration, a bona fide role model. Our community is incredibly lucky to have him. Rock on, dude. You're my hero. And you as well, Mr. Dean.

Intelligent men having a real conversation.

What an amazing and refreshing, honest, candid interview. Not just about Keenan and his experience, but about queer men in general. I love hearing Keenan’s experiences and about his self awareness and actualization about being gay versus being a gay professional athlete. Understanding how his privilege colored his experience speaks to what a good person he is. Maybe one of my favorite interviews of a “celebrity” I’ve ever seen. Thank you to you both.

I had a personal conversation with Keegan recently. His words made me face my fears about visibility and attending gyms. I go regularly now. He took time out of his own life to give me some words of encouragement. I appreciate that.
