I watched so many reactions to this song/video and I have to give you a great "BRAVO" for your reaction. You really drove deep into it and you are one of the few who understand a lot. :washhands:

As an American, I completely identify with the meaning behind this song. Loving your country and feeling both the pride of its greatness in your bones, as well as the shame of its terrible past in your heart and soul. An absolutely beautiful and meaningful song and video.

Rammstein is so much more than casual listeners are presented with when first hearing.

Thanks for reacting to this guys, there are so many layers in this song it goes to far to explain here, but you can find them online. The black girl represent the goddes Germania and through her we see the history of Germany with all the good and the bad. Glad you watched the credits also with Sonne, I was the one pointing this out to you after your reaction to Sonne.

Dankeschön für diese herzliche Reaktion... Ein wirklich episches Video ist " Adieu " . Grüße aus Deutschland.

I just have to say thank you here.

Thank you for restoring my faith in good reaction channels.
Many people think they can just sit in front of the camera, let the song play, not understand a single word (because subtitles are a technology not everyone is familiar with yet), and not think about the words or, even better, the meaning of the song.
There are plenty of songs you can just react to without having to put much thought into them. This song is not one of them. Just like most songs about history. Sabaton's songs immediately come to mind.

You guys are doing it exactly right. You actually think about what it could mean. You make an effort to understand it. Not every thought has to be right, and you don't have to catch everything hidden in this video.
It's the effort you put in that counts.

Thank you.

Sehr schön wie ihr beide euch echt Gedanken gemacht habt, was dieses Lied zu sagen hat. Ihr seid mit Herz dabei gewesen.....💯👍

Germania (portrayed by German actress Ruby Commey) is the allegorical personification of Germany (like Britannia, Uncle Sam, and so on). Did you notice how she is often wearing red attire and golden jewelry or regalia in many of the video scenes? These, together with her black skin, represent the formerly revolutionary republican national colors that have featured on the national flags of all German republics (🇩🇪 Weimar Republic 1918 - 1933, 🇩🇪 West/East Germany 1949 - 1990, 🇩🇪 reunified Germany from 1990) since the abolishment of the nobility and abdication of the last German Kaiser after WW1.

Deutschland is a brutally honest song and video that was the first new music release for ten years from Rammstein. A trailer was issued which angered quite a few organisations because they felt that the Holocaust was being trivialised in a music video. The same people wouldn't have made the same assessment perhaps of a film depicting it this way? Who knows. According to Paul Landers, the band's rhythm guitarist, Rammstein were helped at by the German government over the song and the video but as a fan of Rammstein for almost thirty years, I don't think they're overly concerned about struggling a few feathers with their music topics or their videos.
Brilliant reaction from you both, it's a lot to take in on one viewing.

This is my favourite music video of all time. Its a masterpiece. Song is incredible too...

They also grew up during the Cold War in East Germany where they weren't allowed to listen to western music, but they could still listen because radio waves don't care about borders. There is an official documentary in the special features of one of their concert films that shows that two halves of the band vacationed in the US at the same time after the Wall came down and didn't fully meet until after going back home. They are a very fascinating band.

Zeit ( time) ein absolutes Meisterwerk

PS: and after all that germany ended up again in a chaotic community of 39 small states. So Hoffmann von Fallersleben composed our national anthem 1841 to set a sing that nothing else matters than becoming a united state of freedom and democracy. But it took another 30y until Otto von Bismarck was able to do what the song was telling. :)

That was a wonderful reaction ❤️. You really took the time to understand the meaning of the song on your own (his German is perfect, by the way). It’s the best reaction I’ve seen so far, and I’ve seen a lot of them. Thank you very much. 🔥🤘🏻

❤❤❤

I'm from Eastern Germany and I feel exactly the same.

Plus unbelievably proud of my men that they really reach the world and tell about us who feel like that.

Thank you for your reaction! Beautiful. ❤

Excellent review,this isn't a film clip, it's a mini motion picture...loved the passion...which is what Rammstein evokes...passion.
I only discovered them around four years ago myself, and just when you think you've reached the "oh my God,it can't get any better than this!" moment, the next song takes you even higher...
It's like a drug.

You got the essentials of the song so well. Shame about the country, but it's also your own country that you really try to love.

You did a very thorough and fitting analysis. Better than any others. Congrats and thank you.

Respect to how much you guys got from it all. Was fun to view :)

The wordplay makes this song....Germany uber alles becomes uber allen
With one letter it changes from Germany above all to Germany above everyone else

Thanks Guys, one of the best Musicvideos of all time!   Some information :  We're talking about key moments in history here: the Germanic tribes defeating the Romans, the resurrection of legendary warriors (the Spear of Lazarus), the 1920s, and the witch hunts with all their bigotry. Then you have the Third Reich, the RAF terror in the 70s, and the Cold War with East German politicians partying while the people didn't even have the basics. It’s a critical look at history.

And honestly... nobody in Germany speaks with that rolled 'R' anymore. That's a relic from the 30s when people had to over-emphasize the 'R' because of the shitty radio quality back then. Nowadays, we always associate that specific 'R' with the 30s and 40s
