One cube. Thirty-nine starships. Eleven thousand dead. And before the Borg fired a shot, they stopped to take one man.
The Borg inform every civilisation they meet that resistance is futile. Then, at every decisive moment in their own history, they reach for one specific person. A captain, to speak for them. An offer to an android instead of an assimilation. Terms accepted from a single starship. A son they did not know existed, used as a receiver.
Every time, the reaching is how they got in. Every time, the reaching is also how they were beaten.
This is the history of the Borg told through the people they could not stop needing.

THE ARGUMENT
A collective of trillions needed a human voice and called it Locutus — the one who speaks. Wolf 359 was not lost to firepower; it was lost to Starfleet's own knowledge, flying inside a cube. Earth was not saved by a fleet either time: once by an android reaching back down the link the Borg had opened, once by a captain who could still hear them. When force finally failed against Species 8472, the Borg did the one thing they call impossible — they negotiated, with one ship and one captain. And the collective was broken by one woman who walked in alone and let herself be taken.
THE COUNTERWEIGHT Most Borg assimilation is not personal at all. They take planets, absorb populations, assign numbers and move on. So maybe the individual is not what the Borg need — maybe it is only the sharpest tool they have. The video makes that case too. You decide.
