Biggest reference: Ellie ending up alone when in the first game, she said that was her biggest fear.

There’s another one:
When Ellie visits Joel’s house after he died, when you enter his room there’s a book called “An Idiot’s Guide to Space.”

I thought that was really cute.
Y’know, Joel is willing to understand Ellie’s interests because he truly cares for her.
:’)

anyone noticed how the beginning of both games are similar? joel wakes up 20 years later with tess knocking on the door, while ellie wakes up 3 years later with jesse knocking on the door.

Its so surreal to see the differences between the two games and how "Old" the first game looks today. I remember playing for the first time in 2013 and thinking this is the most realistic shit ive ever seen.

One think that I just noticed: Joel used the guitar lessons in order to keep seeing Ellie.

Now with both of them living in Jackson, there was no reason for them to maintain their relationship as they are not related and Ellie had her doubts about what really happened with the Fireflies.

But the guitar was a good excuse to keep her near. That guitar became the thing that connected them. So, losing the ability to play guitar was the worst punishment for the path Ellie chose.

After this game we need a prequel for Joel. The same thing they did for ellie with left behind. On how he helped Tommy stay alive. That's gonna be DOPE

Bill: You keep babysitting like this and it’ll end up blowing up in your face

That’s actually what happened, Joel killed the fireflies to protect Ellie, and it ends up blowing up in his face because the FireFlies came back for him

R.I.P Joel Miller

He is finally with his other baby girl.

EDIT: Great to see people still arguing about the whole "Joel deserve/did not deserve it" thing, really shows how much this game means to people. Also, thanks for likes guys :)

I just love that Joel finally got to have some coffee again, after over 20 years of surviving he got to finally relax with a nice warm cup. Rest In Peace Joel 😔

When Ellie says that "Joel and Tommy did a lot to survive", she wasn't referring to her travels with Joel as this clip seems to imply. She was referring to when Joel and Tommy were hunters. We never see this ourselves, but after Ellie and Joel survive their first hunter encounter in Pittsburgh, and Ellie asked how he knew that the guy holding his stomach was faking, he says that he has been on "both sides". Later, Tommy references the nightmares he still has over the things he and Joel did together.
Oddly, Ellie wasn't present for the 2nd conversation, so the only way she'd know that Tommy and Joel were in it together as hunters is via another conversation we don't hear, but it seems reasonable to draw this inference.

The whole ending of part II is a reference to part I... since she said to Sam that she was afraid of ending up alone

@Wesker12349 5 years ago

One reference you missed, when Ellie is leaving the theather to find Tommy Dina gives her a bracelet and say its for good luck, then Ellie says: " I Dont believe in Luck", its a clear reference to David from the first game, she learned from him that there are no such thing as luck, everything happens for a reason.

0:58 That's the rabbits daughter, she's back for revenge, but at the last second she forgives Ellie for no reason.

@cammiet7944 6 years ago

We need to appreciate how Joel says
“co fee”

@michaelporter7629 6 years ago

Also, Joel and Ellie both got stabbed in the same region on their abdomen unintentionally by something in the environment.

@Yas-do7ko 6 years ago

I think you missed the main one. The tragedy when Joel lost his daughter (Sarah) at the beginning of Part I similar to how Ellie lost her father figure (Joel) at the beginning of Part II :(

@Cetra29 6 years ago (edited)

The entire second game is one big parallel.

Joel coped with Sarah's death and the game showed how much he loved his two girls.
Ellie and Abby coped with their father's deaths and showed how much they loved them.
Part 1 was a requiem to Sarah with Joel repenting for how he could not save her by saving Ellie. Part 2 was a requiem to Joel with Ellie with her repenting by forgiving Joel, expressing her love for him so much that she gives up her chance for a normal life to find Abby and finally settle things (which she did, the outcome does not matter here).

Rest in Peace Joel Miller
Beloved husband
Father to Sarah ...
and Ellie
