For months, there’s been speculation that the Citizen NY0040 is being discontinued. After seeing all the rumors, I reached out directly to Citizen—and they responded.

I got NY0040-17L from Jomashop a few years ago. It's a little rougher for wear than when I got it new, but it still ticks away and works great. Its got the 8204 movement but the dial says 8203, so I like that little easter egg. I have mine as well on a Long Island oyster style bracelet.

Standard Sapphire introduction. ECO drive variation with day date. Standard divers bracelet. I take the NY0120 series as the successor, and I have a few of those already. Perhaps they should introduce the 9015 caliber. I accidentally dropped my lovely blue NY0040 on the concrete floor when the strap broke. I have to say it still runs perfectly and is nearly as tough as a G-Shock.

I was eyeing up the black dial version on Jomashop for a long time. Was going to buy it for my birthday l when it went out of stock there. I reached out and they stated it was now a special order only and they did not know when there would be stock again. I found an eBay seller who had it for the same price as Joma and I'm glad I pulled the trigger. Love this watch so far!

Thanks for the two videos that you posted on this series of watches from Citizen. I’ve been looking to get an automatic watch for a few months. I picked up a Seiko SSK003 from Amazon and when I got it, it was obviously a return or used and I promptly sent it back. But after watching your videos about this line possibly being discontinued, and seeing the prices they were at, I picked up a blue dial from Jomashop for $204! I’m hoping to get a bracelet for it as well. Thanks again!

So glad I bought one last month!! Hasn’t come off my wrist since. I LOVE this timepiece. Highly recommend before it’s too late. Very accurate by the way. Impressed on all fronts. Also, seeing many comments about sapphire crystals instead of min glass. This is a tool watch. I’m fine with the mineral crystal.

According to Caliber Corner the 8204 movement is no longer available in the Citizen catalog. Perhaps a re-release would be with a different movement. Hopefully, they will keep producing these without making any other changes.

Thanks for the video. I believe the new one is the Citizen NY0160-66E, which I just bought and it also has the 8204 hackable, but it has better crown that is stamped and all, mine is mineral crystal but im sure there is a bigger one 44mm which has sapphire. I love it so far. It’s called Fubu and supposed to be limited edition.

I did just purchase one of these. With serial number dating it to July of 2026, $242 on rubber strap including shipping. It was just purchased and arrived today.

Also got one earlier this year and its serial is for March of 2026. $219 on steel bracelet total with shipping.

Both have the 8204 movement.

Sad news indeed, however I'd say they may change crystal from mineral to sapphire or the case from stainless steel to titanium. That's what usually brands change on reissued versions.

I bought the full lume model a couple of months ago. I also read that the folded bracelet was cheap and would probably fall apart eventually. I have several other older Citizen watches with this style of bracelet and they have help just fine. Nevertheless I began a search and saw the Long Island watch bracelet offerings. However I wanted some onthe fly adjustment and when they suggested their separate latch it got a bit pricey coming in at about 75% of the price of the watch. Next I did the fitting of bracelet and made an nice discovery. These bracelets are very easy to adjust and ... it already has an on the fly adjustment that works well enough! I recently fitted a Pagani Omega homage Sea Master and that bracelet weighs a ton making the watch too heavy. Now that I have Milanese mesh on it it's much nicer. So the "less impressive" Citizen clasp which is not milled but partially stamped is to me a good thing. Less is more 🤗
