A pattern on a rock reads as decoration. Something that happened to the stone on its way down the creek, not something the stone is telling you, so it goes straight back into the gravel.
In this video we look at the patterns that actually mean something, what each one records about how the rock formed, and why the markings most people walk past are the first thing an experienced collector checks.
The stone is not hiding anything. It writes it on the outside and almost nobody reads it.
