Sad to hear the Tunnel Bus is gone. As a kid, I remember going downtown to my mom's job and see the Tunnel Bus dropping off wirkers. A lot of people worked in Detroit and lived in Windsor.

The bus saying "sorry" at 14:04 is so Canadian.

I found an old Transit Windsor bus route map from 1988 in my collection. The tunnel bus was running every 10 minutes in peak times and 20 minutes rest of the day. What a comedown from those days.

The end of the Tunnel Bus is sad. You'd think both sides could work out some bus plan that wouldn't be $20 a ride.

I grew up in Detroit, and now I live in Canada (Vancouver), but ironically I’ve never taken this bus. Detroit is so car-centric that I always just drove across the border.

It’s always so interesting to see my hometown (Windsor) showcased on Youtube. I cross everyday via tunnel because I work in MI so all these sights are very common for me but it’s very nice to see that it’s not so common for everyone else! Great vid!

Welcome to my neck of the woods! While it is sad that the Tunnel Bus service is ending, Transit Windsor is focusing on providing more frequent bus services to their most popular city bus routes and even have buses that also services other municipalities in Essex County outside of Windsor as well.

This is honestly quite devastating, since you can no longer 1. hop across the river to view the skyline (which is a quintessential part of any visit to Detroit in my opinion), 2. take a train/bus/train combo from Chicago to Toronto, or 3. work in Detroit and live in Windsor and commute via bus, as you mentioned. I'm glad I still have my TW Smart Ride card as a souvenir from back in the day when things were significantly less awful.

I used to take this bus regularly as a student in Windsor. Was nice to go hit up Detroit and not have to worry about my car, or my sobriety, at all lol

Not only was the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel the third underwater vehicular tunnel constructed in the US, the world's third tunnel between two nations, and the first international vehicle tunnel as you mentioned, but the tunnel was actually built by the same firm behind the Holland Tunnel, Parsons, Klapp, Brinckerhoff and Douglas. The executive engineer was Burnside A. Value, the engineer of design was Norwegian-American engineer Søren Anton Thoresen, while fellow Norwegian-American Ole Singstad consulted, and designed the ventilation. Besides designing the ventilation for the Holland Tunnel, Singstad also designed the Lincoln Tunnel, Brooklyn–Battery Tunnel, Queens–Midtown Tunnel, as well as designing tunnels for the Hudson & Manhattan Railroad (now PATH) and spent seven years in charge of work on subways and rail tunnels in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and under the East River. Fhr the Holland Tunnel, Singstad picked up where Clifford Milburn Holland left off, who Singstad worked with.  He began working under chief engineer Clifford Milburn Holland in 1915, and he finished directing construction of the Holland Tunnel after the death of Holland in the fall of 1924 and of Holland's successor Milton H. Freeman, who died in March 1925. Holland died due to stress and long hours working on the project, and he died on October 27 at age 41, one day before the final charge of dynamite connected the two tunnels. Clifford was also engineer-in-charge for the 60th Street, Montague Street, 14th Street, and Clark Street Tunnels of the NYC Subway.

Windsor is known as the City of Roses. Windsor is the oldest continually inhabited European-founded settlement in Canada west of Montreal as a French agricultural settlement was established there in 1749! The French first named it la Petite Côte or Little Coast because the coastline on the Windsor side was shorter than on the Detroit side and later called it La Côte de Misère or Poverty Coast because of the sandy soils near LaSalle. After the American Revolution, a settlement called Sandwich was established there which was later renamed to Windsor after the famous town in England's Berkshire home to Windsor Castle.

Windsor's auto industry originated in 1904 when the first large-scale production of automobiles in Canada took place in Walkerville near Windsor. In the first year of operations, Gordon McGregor and Wallace Campbell, along with a handful of workmen, produced 117 Ford Model Cs at the Walkerville Wagon Works factory. The Windsor Assembly opened in 1928, Chrysler minivans production began in 1983, and the Windsor Assembly remains the city's largest employer.  By the Second World War, industrial production increased dramatically, attracting many new workers and resulting in even more substantial residential growth within the city and in the surrounding townships. As a newly amalgamated city (Windsor, East Windsor/Ford City, Walkerville, and Sandwich), Windsor had become one of the world's leading automobile manufacturers, ranking fourth in the world in the output of cars and trucks. By 1940, Canadian auto plants were contributing to the war effort by turning out over 600 armoured personnel carriers a day. Ford was one of the first to convert to military production building approximately 336,187 trucks and 33,992 carriers, for use by Allied forces. This was the largest single source of military land transport in the British Empire and far exceeded the output of Germany, Italy, and Japan combined.

Windsor's street system (a grid with elongated blocks) reflects the Canadien/French Canadian method of agricultural land division, where the farms were long and narrow, fronting along the river. Today, the name of the north–south street often shows the name of the family that farmed the land where the street is today. Windsor was actually the first Canadian city to get electric streetcars! The streetcar system adopted by Windsor and surrounding towns was developed by Belgian-American Charles J. Van Depoele. Van Depoele had immigrated to Detroit from Belgium in 1874 to develop his electric system. In 1875, he invented and demonstrated the first trolley pole. Windsor was the first city to adopt Van Depoele's system in 1886, also making it the first in Canada to have any type of electric streetcar system. Other Canadian cities soon followed suit, with St. Catharines in 1887 and Toronto in 1889. Prior to the electric cars, a horse-drawn streetcar system had been in place in Windsor since 1872.

Poutine was created in the 1950s in the Centre-du-Québec region, which include Drummondville, Victoriaville, and Bécancour. This region is known as the breadbasket of Quebec as it's big on agriculture like poultry and more importantly, the dairy industry. Hence having plenty of cheese curds!

Tim Hortons history: It founded by Tim Horton who played in the NHL from 1949 until his death in a car crash in 1974. The first Tim Horton restaurant was in North Bay, Ontario, and sold hamburgers. The chain's first donut store opened in May 1964 in Hamilton, Ontario under the name Tim Horton Donuts. Soon after Horton opened the store, he met Ron Joyce, a former police constable in Hamilton. In 1965, Joyce took over the fledgling shop and by 1967, after opening two additional stores, Joyce and Horton became full partners. After his death, Joyce took over and aggressively expanded the chain. Today they are owned by Restaurant Brands International since 2014, a merger with Burger King.

Mind bogling that there is just one international busline between 2 gigantic countries.
My mother in law lives in a small town (12000 inhabitans) and it has 7 international buslines between 3 countries.

I have no idea how it looks from the US side, but that Canadian city seems to be very clean and inviting. Living in one of those cities and being able to cross the border like that sounds really cool to me, a miniature version of how people usually travel within the EU.
